Does anyone know of any good small animal clinics in Ft. Worth? I live on the west side of town but I would drive across town for a good one.

Also, are vets usually good people to talk to about finding local dog breeders?

HH, glad you posted this. I'd also like to know of a good local Aggie vet in F-Dub.

Dr. Jeff Harrison at Aledo Vet Clinic is great and a lab owner. The clinic is next to on the southside service road at I-20 and Ranch House Road just before Willow Park.

If you don't mind driving to the south side of Fort Worth, Bob Denton in Crowley is a fantastic vet.

He bleeds maroon.

I had a great Aggie Vet when I lived on the SW side, Dr. Morris at the Animal Hospital of SW Fort Worth

I think all of the DVMs at Hulen Hills Vet Clinic (Hulen and I-30) are Aggies. The owner, Dr. Hotchkiss, is an Ag, as well as Drs. Nigliazzo and McBroom. Their boarding facility next door is second-to-none (though a tad pricey).

I highly recommend them.

phoenix, now we're talking: it's a much shorter jaunt for me and Miles The Great (White Pyr) over to the West side.

JAg97: I have a sick pooch, and they've been awesome ... they're very caring and professional, plus we could chat about Aggie sports. If not for the sick pooch, it would be enjoyable to visit.

(Plus, they have a plasma TV in the waiting room.)

If you go looking for them, they're right across Hulen from Central Market, behind Arlington Heights HS. There's even an adjoining, 24-hour emergency vet hospital, so it's one-stop shopping for all things dog.

phoenix, appreciate the info. Probably won't setup an appt. until this fall, but I'd gladly drop your name on them as a reference if I end up using them. forspencer at gmail.com

I went to high school with Mike Nigliazzo. He's a great guy, and I wouldn't hesitate to take my pet to him. I had no idea that he was practicing up here now.

He is a great guy, and a good vet -- I'm glad I discovered his office when I moved to town. My dog had one vet for 11+ years, so finding a good new office was important.

I went to Hulen Hills for awhile until they recommended putting my dog who had a rash (though severe) down. I took him to another vet and after a couple of very smelly sulphur baths, he was back to normal. I have since talked to a few people that said they don't like working with non pure bred dogs. I am sure they are great people; I just didn't have a good experience with them.

I have since found Dr. Carol Cass at Westcliff Animal Hospital to be very good. Her phone number is (817) 922-8022. She is an Aggie and her daughter is at vet school at A&M. Her office is south of TCU on South Hills Avenue.

A vet who doesn't like dealing with mutts? Wouldn't that mean turning away roughly 85% of the dogs out there?

My two would be out, for sure -- their heritage is as mixed as mine. Thankfully, that wasn't my experience, but you bring up a good point: no matter how much you trust your vet, always get a second opinion for serious situations.

We go to AAnimal on Vickery and have always liked them. Use them for boarding and vet services. I think at least one of them is an Aggie, but I don't really care.

I have heard good things about Hulen Hills also.

Bringing this thing to the top.

Does anyone have any experience with University Animal Hospital at McCart and Berry just across from Paschal High.

I'm wondering if they're Aggie owned as well as the level of care.

Any updates?

We are bringing home a pup next week and are close to both A-Animal and Hulen Hills.

Anyone have any boarding facilities they would recommend?

We've given Hulen Hills a small fortune in the last two years with our hounds. We use Dr. Nigliazzo exclusively unless it's an emergency (which happens more often than we'd like). I can't say enough good things about Nigliazzo. He's a really good person and has the best interest of your hound in mind.

He doesn't recommend anything unless he thinks it's really needed and has always treated our hounds like his own. He's also really good about following up to make sure they're doing fine. If he were to go somewhere else we'd likely follow.

Hulen Hills is the most expensive in town so it all depends on what you want. I do like the fact that they have 24 hr. care and since we use them as our regular vet they always have their files on hand.

As for boarding we take ours to Hound Around Day Care - http://www.houndarounddaycare.com/

Our hounds absolutely love this place. I don't know that I'd recommend it for any dog under 6 months since they'll be with other dogs and need a strong immune system just to be safe. It's a bit suspect driving up but DeeDee is great. We take our dogs crates up there and they sleep in their own beds at night so it's kind of like home.

We've also used Abbey's Pet Sitting when we need someone to let them out during the day.

We took a very sick dachsaund of ours to several vets in the area. They all said there was nothing that could be done and that he would need to be put to sleep. The day we were going to have him put down, my dad decided to take him to Dr. Tierce at Camp Bowie Animal Clinic. He had been trying to avoid this place as there is often a long wait because so many people go there.

This guy said "I have one idea we could try" and this was about a year ago. The dog is now as good as new. We almost lost him but Dr. Tierce was willing to try a little harder...

We drove by his place on the way home on Christmas Eve, and sure enough... 10:00 Christmas Eve he was up there.

That's all I got.

If it isn't Hulen Hills Animal Hospital, then there is a place close - the name escapes me right now. Just south of AHHS, and I want to say it faces the practice field. A friend raves about putting her dogs there. There are cameras one can access on the internet to check up on the animals if need be.

BTW, did you leave the US Army?

We brought our new dog home today because he was sick and couldn't stay at the humane society. Ended up getting in at A-Animal. Saw the youngest doc there and she was very nice. Hopefully Murphy will improve greatly over the next 24 hours.

What's wrong with the little fella ? ? ? Is he worried because he doesn't have NYE plans for Cowtown, Fort Worth, or Tarrant County ? ? ?

In all seriousness, been in your shoes and hope it all works out. It's amazing how quickly you can get attached to something that eats, sleeps, barks, poops, and not much more.

He has a cold (upper respiratory) and we are on the lookout for signs of distemper.

Hang in there. Our dude that had the same issues is balled up on his bed next to me dreaming of going to the hound park in the morning.

It can be pretty rough going through it and I hope he gets better.

We are hoping and praying.

Last week we had a horrible experience where we fell in love with a pup and she got sick and was put down overnight.

He's cute Worth! I hope everything is going well - he sounds like a trooper. And please don't let anyone teach him to jump on people or I will not be able to come to your house anymore. Cause he'll knock me over.
