A friend who doesn't live in Texas asked me if I knew any good estate lawyers in Texas, but I don't know any at all. Her mom recently passed away, and I think she died in Dallas. I don't live in Dallas and don't know any estate lawyers, so I thought I'd ask here in case it would be best for the lawyer to be someone in Dallas. I would assume there's probate and/or someone contesting a will. My friend and her sister don't get along, and the last I heard, her mom wasn't on good terms with either of them.

I have used Jeff Yates before for probate. He's an Aggie. His office is in Prosper. He filed in Dallas County in my case. I would definitely use him again. Best of luck.

I'd be glad to talk with her. Nothing too difficult if it's uncontested, but she will benefit greatly with a probate litigator if it's contested or may become contested.

Thanks. She texted me back and said that her mom was in an adult memory care facility in Gillespie County, just north of San Antonio, when she died, and she did not sign a will so it is intestate.

I am guessing that means it's complicated, but also, does that mean she would need to find a lawyer who is in Gillespie County?

I am surprised that her mom would not have a will. She had a very long detailed obituary that she definitely wrote herself, and the funeral has taken place so I guess she made those arrangements before she died (or else my friend's sister or her aunts did).
