Have a buddy renting an apartment in North Dallas area and has had a leak through his walls from rainwater and now it is growing black mold in his apartment. Landlord only offered fans to dry out the carpet and walls.

He wants to break the lease and move on but the landlord is telling him he can't do that. He needs guidance. Any good area lawayers that specialize in this type of stuff?

No recommendation (I represent landlords) but he should review ch 92 of the property code to know his rights and remedies. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PR/htm/PR.92.htm

Texas is one of the few states that regulates mold inspections and remediation. If it is more than 25 contiguous sq ft of affected area have to have licensed mold inspection and remediation done. Most landlords will cave if apply enough pressure - even a demand letter from a lawyer may be enough.
