Anyone know anything about them good / bad?

In my experience as an inspector, they are not very good. Hit and miss quality and pretty consistently poor customer service. Doesn't mean they are always bad houses, but there are definitely better choices.

I own one... They are s#&_(!

Where to start. They do a very sloppy job and miss many things, their "inspection" process is terrible, they pick terrible subs (windows, landscape, drywall, HVAC, foundation) and they hope you do not discover problems during build process. They tried to cover up heavy rain washing out soil under foundation. I had get a signoff on a structural engineer for a fix before they continued . 1 painted coat on the siding where you should still see the unpainted siding thru the painted color. 2 red oak trees placed within 10 feet of each other, the weakest fencing over ever seen, and many many more issues

Overall they do a half a$&_- job and hope you don't notice

PM me and I can go into greater detail

My neighborhood is mostly First Texas Homes. We've had multiple neighbors tell us we're lucky that ours isn't.

We haven't had any issues with them.

Thanks y'all. PMs won't be necessary, sounds like a run away from pass. Thanks for the feedback.

I've been walking through new builds in and around Frisco for 15 years and every time I walk through a First Texas build it's a complete mess. Clearly all tract builders have issues but they are consistently the worst and I would never consider building or buying an existing home from them.

Can someone walk me through what sets Highland apart from First Texas homes as tract builders? Obviously the quality of subs but I'm sure there's other reasons.

Their overall quality and workmanship is better. Little things really, but they add up.

It seems they stagger their build starts differently and perhaps run fewer/better subs through the neighborhood. Which would allow them to have fewer, better subs

The biggest thing is just attitude/philosophy.

I once had a client tell me about her experience on a 9 year old Highland house. She called the warranty department to ask about getting fogged windows replaced ( typically have a 10 year material warranty on fogging, but calling the builder would be a stretch in most cases. ) She said that the Highland person was very helpful and said "our job is to help you get problems covered under the warranty." To me that was a good explanation of their attitude. They aren't going to fix everything or always be perfect, but they are professional about things and seem to work pretty hard to help the client. Whereas many other builders seem to work hard to wiggle out of any responsibility.

Another indication to me is that it is not unusual for me to run into people who are building their second or third Highland house. Don't see that with a lot of builders.

None of this is absolute gospel. There are other builders with similar philosophy, quality and attitude. There are exceptions to Highland being helpful. Particularly right now, I have heard more negative stories about all builders and their actions in this market.
