How long do you want to ignore this user?
I just moved to Dallas and looking to purchase a home in the Preston Hollow area. We would want to make some improvements on the house we are looking at (raise the floor of the sunken living room, open the sun porch to the rest of the house, and remodel the master suite). I was wondering if anyone recommends a general contractor? Thanks in advance.

Good luck getting a GC to even return a call let alone schedule you a year out.

This is absolutely not the time to be looking for one, all the ones I work with are booked a year solid. You need to be willing to offer huge cost+ money if you want to get one to even bid you.

Regardless, do you have any that you recommend?

I just did a down stairs remodel with Huntington Remodeling. They are the reno wing of Highland Homes which is large and among the best quality tract builders in the state. With any construction project there were issues and my project manager did a great job keeping me updated and solving problems. I don't see any issues with them calling you back.

I also had a bid from Servigon Construction. I know the guy that owns it and he does good work, but he was backed with jobs and is a smaller outfit so I went with the other company due to time constraints.

DFW Improved also does a lot of work but they aren't cheap.

As an aside the conversation pit living room is making a comeback. If your wife wants it filled in, don't be surprised if she wants it back in two years.

I'll second Shawn Watkins. He lives over here in my neighborhood of Lochwood so I see a lot of his work first hand. If I wasn't such a DIYer he would probably be my one stop shop for any work I need done.

We built new with Huntington last year. They do good work. They have their own style via the design center they work with, but they'll do anything you want. One thing they are known for is doing warranty work years after the warranty expires. They look at the issue and decide "should this have happened, even 8 years later?" Of a reasonable person says it shouldn't happen, they'll fix it.
