In general would this be a reasonable commute to make? Even at 55-60 miles a day, common sense tells me it should be equal or better than most Dallas burbs most anywhere else (mostly north), plus you get the benefit of having more wide open spaces. Just curious as we consider a relocation due to work in Dallas, however we don't want to do a super-suberb living thing. Been there, done that, no thanks.

I'd say it's reasonable. My mom used to commute from Midlothian to Dallas, and my sister commutes from Red Oak to Dallas. They don't spend a lot of time complaining about the commute. 35-40 minutes one way, maybe 50-an hour on a very bad day. Red Oak is a bit closer. They also both use the Waze app every day.

I live west of Waxahachie 10 minutes from 1-35 in Midlo ISD and my commute downtown is 40-50 minutes in and no more than 40 home. Very reasonable and this is coming from someone that has never had more than a 20 minute commute.

Depart 0625, arrive medical district around 0710. Return trip is roughly the same. Growth is slow by dallas standards. I have good expectations for the mix fix to shave a few minutes both ways.
I call it the good life when you hear the "good" gun fire off in the distance.

I live in Waxahachie and commute to Addison. The earlier you leave the better. Its not bad though most days. I recommend becoming familiar with 1310 The Ticket and you won't even notice the drive. I look forward to it now as a time to wind down and get a few laughs in.

I commute from Mansfield to Oak Cliff daily. Frequently, it is faster for me to go through Midlothian than it is to fight on I 20.

It is a 32 mile trip that takes 40-65 minutes. A few of my employees live in Waxahachie and drive in to Oak Cliff everyday.

We just moved to Ovilla a few months ago. We are about 5-6 miles west of 35 and the commute in the mornings is about 40-45 mins. It's a little less in the evenings. We moved from the mid cities ares and are within a mile or two of the same distance to downtown but it's a much shorter commute.

You're going to like midlothian / Waxahachie.

I've done both the midlothian to Dallas commute and cleburne to Fort Worth commute (before Chisholm trail). They were so similar. If not accidents or weather you could time it down to anywhere from 43-47 minutes. Hellish days with snow or a bad accident and it will be over an hour. But you are correct on it being way better than coming from a north or north east burb.

Thanks all for the very helpful input!

What is growth expected to be like in this area? More slow/steady growth?

It won't be slow. South is the new north but the whole area is on fire.

Growth rate is pretty high. City council is pretty protective as far as zoning, though. They don't jump off into projects very fast from what I've noticed.

I did a quick search and didn't see anything about mass transport in the area. Ever going to be a DART line headed down 35 south?

There is a DART bus line from Glenn Heights to downtown but other than that not much available.

Waxahachie is building a new high school on the west side of town. The expected growth for the town in the next years should be pretty big.

I can't remember if it was Midlothian or Mansfield being discussed - probably Mansfield. But the article mentioned that it was the next Frisco.

I go from Midlothian, just west of Ovilla, to Irving for work, most days 40-45 minutes. Agree with what others have posted. Really like it out there.
