Any experience with Irving/Coppell area charter schools?

My son will start kindergarten next year and I'm starting to look ahead to options. The public elementary school we're zoned (La Villita Elementary) for is very convenient and well-regarded, as best I can tell, and I'll definitely give it serious consideration, but for a few reasons, I'm not sure that's the best fit for him and want to consider other options. We've got quite a few charter schools nearby that I'm interested in learning more about: from Uplift, North Hills Prep (I know, slim odds in lottery), Infinity Prep; from ResponsiveEd, Coppell Classical Academy (formerly Vista Academy) and Carrollton Classical Academy; and a Great Hearts that just opened.

If anyone has a child at one of these schools, or considered but then opted against it, I'd appreciate your feedback. Would you recommend the school, knowing what you know now?

I will note that my son has done well with the Montessori curriculum at his preschool and since we opted to start him a year later than we could (mainly due to ADHD and wanting to give him time to mature emotionally), he'll be starting wherever he goes as one of the older kids and academically pretty well prepared (he's already starting to read and do addition), so I want him to be somwhere that can challenge each child wherever they are.

I'd recommend checking out Founders Classical Academy in Lewisville.

2 of our 3 kiddos (3rd will be starting next year) are in school at Coram Deo Academy in Flower Mound. It's not exactly what you're asking about in regards to charter schools but CDA has been a phenomenal educational situation for our family. It's a classical Christian education that functions on the university model of 2 days in class and 2 days of homeschool, with Fridays set aside for elective learning either on campus or through other activities at the families' discretion. It provides a unique opprtunity to take a leadership role in your children's education while also having the social outlet, structure and support of an on campus classroom education. It would require a parent at home 2 days a week to homeschool though. I'm happy to chat if you're interested in learning more.

We tried that for my son to start kindergarten last year. Ended up number 80 on a kindergarten waiting list. Ended up in Lewisville's public school system and we've been very happy with his school. We didn't even didn't even apply at Founders this year.

Thanks for the comments. Founders looks like it's run by Responsive Ed, the same company that runs Classical; I'll have to ask when I check out the schools what differences there are between them, but to the extent they are similar it sounds like a good referral...though if the Coppell one has a waitlist too, that may not make it a good option for us. Coram Deo sounds interesting but not a good fit for us since both parents work. I am glad to hear that there are options like that out there though and better recognition that one size fits all, well, doesn't.

Responsive Ed runs the financial side of it but the academic side is run by Hillsdale College.
