Has anyone else noticed that the fact that its summer has made almost 0 impact in the mornings like it used to? Between about 745 and 9AM, traffic is just as horrific as ever heading north from DT to 635....southbound doesn't look much better.

While it sucks in the short term, I think its a sign that traffic on the DNT is going to get much much worse before it gets better..Can't imagine how terrible it will be with Toyota and a few of the other places open in Plano.

Anyways, rant over, just wondering if others had the same observation over the last couple of weeks.

On the bright side they will continue to raise the price for you (and i) to have the privilege of sitting in traffic there, while they use the money for other areas.....

DNT is about to get a fourth lane extending from George Bush area to 121 and maybe further construction on other parts (not really sure). If you think it's bad now, you should start looking at other options for the next few years.

Too bad that adding more lanes doesn't actually reduce congestion.

It seems like my office almost sits on top of the Tollway at the Beltline intersection in Addison (WF building), so I get to watch it all day. Definitely getting worse.

It's shocking to me why they don't make a dart line run up the toll way. Make it elevated over the toll road. Do it now!

I've seen them barricade off the right should around Windhaven. It looks as if we won't lose a lane during construction. In the last when the some serious road work, they always do it between 11pm and 5am.

Yup, there will just be 4 clowns driving side by side 5 under the speed limit, texting. I wish they would put in a lane that only allows you to exit at 121, Bush, 635, and downtown, I will never understand why the left lane is always slower than the other lanes.

Great idea.

The amount of people I see texting on the DNT is ridiculous. Maybe add a texting only lane and barricade it. Don't feel like getting in an accident over some idiot playing on their phone.

It is rampant everywhere. Was behind someone on Central earlier this week who was weaving so badly I would have sworn they were DWI, but as I passed him & glanced over, sure enough he was looking at his phone screen.

Yes I will only try to leave on it before 730 or after 9. The traffic going southbound in the morning is brutal. I don't understand how people can do that every day. 10 years from now it's going to be impossible.

Maybe 10 years from now, we'll have better light rail service, more people will live closer to their jobs, and DISD will be much improved.

Oh, wait this is Dallas. We'll continue to throw money at highway expansion, the "Dallas" suburbs will reach to Oklahoma City, and DISD will have gone through 10 superintendents.

One can dream.

I get on the tollway about 630am most days. Coming home is brutal so I stay at work till 630+ most days.

Off topic, but IMO the best way to improve DISD is break it into smaller districts.

There will be more ability for locals to positively impact their district through voting and more people will chose to stay near Dallas.

Didn't the original plans for the Tollway include some form of light rail?

Not that I've ever read. Light rail didn't really start until the 70s. the DNT opened in 1968.

I was curious what the region's plans for northern mobility were, so I pulled NTCOG's long-term plan.

No rail on the DNT, but a new "Frisco" line that runs down and meets up with the Green line/"Belt" line at the Carrollton station.

Just wait around for another 20 years.

I've thought of that too when sitting in traffic. An elevated lane that only exits at those spots and let's people in at those spots. I know it was my choice to live that far north but traffic still sucks.

The only thing that will save the traffic situation in DFW is widespread adoption of self-driving cars. We're too spread out for a feasible (affordable) mass transit solution.

At least the businesses seem to be spreading out as much as the residential areas. Think about how bad it would be if those 10,000 new jobs at Legacy West were going into Downtown instead.

And it was built on the old St. Louis Southwestern railroad right-of-way. Oh the irony.

10,000 new jobs between who, Toyota and who else? Liberty?
benMath08

Liberty Mutual around 5k, Toyota around 4k (possibly more), Fedex around 1.2k.

Pretty sure it was on the wish list, but I don't think they ever had any actual plans. Addison definitely wanted it from their beginning in DART. A rail line up the Tollway would immediately have the highest ridership in DART (DT, Preston Center, Galleria, Addison, etc) and would be a huge plus for the city and region. Too bad DART doesn't have the money for an expansion of that scope. The are struggling for revenue as it is.

Plus, because of the other growth, there are also plans for additional office space being built to lease to smaller co's that want to be in Legacy West. Pretty sure I saw a million sq ft high rise in the works - and that's just the start. I think that first one may be going in between Fedex and 121.

No no no...the way to fix is if is keep firing the superintendent as if they could fix this every couple years.

I know you're talking about DNT/Frisco traffic, but don't forget about State Farm's new building in Richardson off of George Bush. That will cause a lot more traffic for people that use 190. Mainly the people going west to the DNT or further.

Totally agree with the summer morning traffic, as it used to be pretty easy on summer mornings. Now, it is just like any other morning.

Also agree with the texting lane. I saw an accident happen right next to me on 190. The guy in his company truck was texting and everyone moved up about 10 yds and stopped. Then this guy pushes on the gas to look up and realize that everyone stopped and then he tried to slam on his brakes. Slammed right into the back of a little Toyota Corolla. I tightened up knowing this was going to happen as I just saw this guy speeding up when everyone else was stopped.

I work from home now two days a week, and it is a big relief that I don't have to go through that traffic everyday.

I had heard rumblings of combining the Lakewood area schools and the Lake Highlands area schools and forming a White Rock ISD. Hello skyrocketing property values.

I've always just chalked it up to a certain % of people being on vacation for any given week, alleviating some of the normal volume. Basically smaller version of the traffic you see during the weeks around Christmas. I coach my daughter's softball team, and once school is out, out of 14 kids on the team, I can expect between 1-4 families to be out of town at any given time until the end of the season (a month later). Then probably mix in some parents that work during the school year but find some way to stay home more often in the summer.
