How long do you want to ignore this user?
Can someone explain to me how it is legal for these clowns to charge what they do per kwh when it is so far above market? We recently moved back to the Allen area and didnt even think to ask about who the gas/electric provider was because at out last place we had atmos/oncor. The neighborhood we live in now (which is about a mile away from the old house) has coserv and we are getting bent over.

How can these guys do this legally? It doesnt make sense to me that they can avoid deregulation and then charge way above market on their rates.

I love Co Serv. I have had their service for 17 years now with five separate meters on my farm. When the big storms hit my area...the towns that immediately surround my farm (usually Texas-New Mexico or TU distribution networks) usually have their electricity out for three to twelve hours. When my goes out, CoServ usually has the power restored within an hour and the surrounding town is still black. I've seen linemen out on some of my poles while it was still raining heavily with lots of lightening.

My average total monthly bill for the various meters is about $500....and I now get about $800 a year in capital credit payments at the end of the year. Keep in mind, they are a not for profit coop and existing not for profit coops were exempted from deregulation when it arrived.

What do they charge per KWH?

I hate the customer service and the fact that I have to pay a fee if I want to pay my bill online. I have had multiple other electricity companies in the past and none of them ever wanted to charge me a fee to pay my bill online.

Looking at 10-11 per kwh right now and it is pissing me off.

So being a not for profit allows them to price gouge? Their price is 3-4 cents per kwh above market.

What is a capital credit?

Do they assess a delivery charge on top of that? I'm at 5.4 through Champion, but then Oncor tacks on another 3.3 for delivery.

I'm paying 9.9 total per KWH. However, my capital credits bring that down to about 9.0 per KWH.

For the guy who asked, capital credits are my share of distributed profits from previous years. All profits are eventually distributed back to customers. You earn capital credits based on each years' net earnings...think dividends. But they are distributed on a five to ten year delayed basis. It just takes a number of years before your distributed share becomes meaningful.....and you take them with you even if you move. Coop will likely one day be sold to one of the big boys and it's members will receive a windfall equal to the value of the purchase price and allocated on the basis of outstanding capital credits.

Didn't they have trouble maintaining gas line pressure during one of the big cold snaps a few years ago? I remember it being all over the news. Between that and the sky-high electric rates I'm seeing on here, I'm glad I'm not forced to use them.
