Mansfield to Downtown Dallas Commute?

Wife and I are looking at moving to Mansfield (from Coppell). The area of Mansfield we like the most is the north west side off 287 just South of Arlington/Kennedale. I suspect the quickest route from there is up to 20 from 287 and then you have a variety of options to choose from depending on that particular days traffic (most likely 67 to 35 from there though I would assume).

If we end up on the south side of Mansfield then I wonder if you aren't better off going south on 287 to 67 and avoiding most of the traffic until you get up to the 35 merge.

The 3rd option is to live somewhere on the East side of Mansfield off 360. I figure going North on 360 to 20 is probably the most likely route there.

Is this going to be an hour plus commute? I have a little flexibility on when I get to and leave work. I currently arrive around 9-930AM and leave around 7PM.

Thoughts?

I have no idea what commute traffic is like but I've driven to Mansfield numerous times to/from Dallas in normal traffic so my first thought from a commute standpoint is HELL NO.

Hopefully someone else can add something more valuable. Shouldn't be too hard to do that.

My Coppell commute is 25-40 minutes in my typical drive time traffic and about 60 minutes on a Friday drive home when I leave earlier. I was thinking (hoping) this drive would be about 15-20 minutes longer based on mileage.

My wife has a friend who commutes from Mansfield to downtown Dallas daily. I'll see if I can find out what her commute is like. With the HOV lanes closed on I-35E, though, it's worse than it used to be, I know.

I agree with the hell no sentiment, but try checking google maps, gps, (or similar) from that area to downtown at the time of your commute for several days in a row to see what it is like with traffic.

I make this drive M-F. The fastest way for me is Matlock all the way up to 20, then 161 to 30 into downtown. Most days I can make it in 45 minutes but I work from 7-4 so not sure how much of a difference the timing will make for you.

When I used to live on the south side I would take 287 to 67. Now that I'm on the NW side of town, I take Matlock to I-20 like Bmac.

Arriving at 9am, your mornings will be pretty heavy traffic. Probably close to an hour. Leaving at 7pm in the evening it won't be bad, probably 35-40 minutes.

The areas we are looking now are:

1. Northwest of Debbie Lane and 287 (kind of the corner of town closest to Kennedale and Arlington)

2. North Central area off Calendar.

My wife's parents live off Sublett between Calendar and 287 (near Park Springs) so we are trying to stay somewhat close to that area.

Supposedly they are moving forward with extending 360 down to 287 as a toll road. Not sure if that does you any good in the next 10 years though.

That seems insane to me.

definitely the fastest route. If you want to skip the tolls you could take 20 to 408/loop 12 to 30

Used to make the commute from Mansfield (360 and Debbie/Ragland) to Richardson every day. I don't recommend doing it but the money was good. Very recently moved closer to Richardson.

But I agree with the guy above. 360 is about to be an even worse nightmare than it currently is at 360 and Camp Wisdom. In the mornings that is backed up for over half a mile. Would recommend Matlock to 20 then take the toll road to 30 or Spur 408 to 30. Going all the way to 67 is too long.

Coming home I would take 67 to 20 and if 20 wasn't completely gridlocked (which was the case the past couple months) it would take about 30-45 minutes from downtown to Mansfield. I don't recommend taking 30 west in the evenings. But at 7 it might not be bad.

For reference I used to leave the house at 6:30 am and would be in downtown headed toward Mansfield around 5 pm.

I made the commute from Mansfield to downtown Dallas twice last week, leaving at 6am. Got there in 30-35 minutes both times, no problem at all.
