Does anyone know of a good tree house builder in the Dallas area? I'm on the East side of Dallas (near Rockwall) and the kids are really wanting a nice tree house. I'd build it, but they want something fancier then I could do (plus I don't want them to die when mine would eventually come tumbling down.) Anyone recommend a good carpenter or handyman in this area?

That show is killing me. Kids want one of those like on the show (they aren't going to get it.) They won't discuss a project with you unless your budget is $50,000 or over (I tried.)

Well if you do find someone post it up here. My daughter LOVES the show, watches every episode on the DVR from start to finish and wants one bad. She just turned 4 and I can't believe that it is her favorite show...

Unfortunately, I've checked that site. The cost for them to do work in Texas would be high. I'm not looking to spend any more than $10,000 on a tree house. Won't get much from that sight for $10,000. Looking for a good handyman or carpenter locally to build one. Shouldn't be that difficult of a job. I have lots of big trees and the acreage to do it on.

I don't mean to be a worry wort or anything, but you ever hear the line WC Fields used to use about refusing to join any club that would have him as a member? This project should fall into about the same category for you.

Sure any decent handyman or carpenter should be able to throw something up for you, but if they're not insured and bonded out the wazoo (ie. expensive to do business with) do you really want them building a tree house that your kids are going to climb up and play on? Seems like a bit of a Catch 22.

What kind of tree do you have?

I have a lot of really big and medium Oaks along with some less desirable Spruce and such. Mostly Oaks, though. Figured I'd use one of the big to medium oaks.

I know enough about building to recognize a bad builder. Was looking for someone that you guys would recommend. Hard to find someone wanting to build a tree house, much less someone that excels at it. Figure most carpenters, would be better than me at doing it.

I looked there as well. No one doing tree houses. There are some "handyman" ads, but am hoping for someone people can recommend. Trying not to just pick up some day laborers from behind Home Depot.

I'll call both Monday and see where that takes the search. Post if anyone has any other suggestions. I'll post once (and if) I find someone.

I just mentioned this to the guy building my chicken coop and he said he was interested. You still looking for a tree house builder?

Do you want the tree(s) to support the weight of the house, or just wanting the tree house built up high around the trees with lumber supporting from the ground? I would want a "specialist" for former. Most carpenters could probably do the latter.

PooDoo: What's his name and number and do you recommend him?

I'm fine with supports being in the ground. Completely in the tree would be hard to do. As long as part of the tree/trees, the kids will be happy.

Yeah, he's a good friend from church. Great guy, country boy that can do just about anything.

He's building me a chicken coop and is a great tree trimmer and roofer. I thought those two skills would equal a pretty good tree house builder.

I help him with his computer and electronic problems and he gives me mechanical and household repair help.

Send me an email to nuclearpalsy at gmail and I'll forward you his info.
