I need some étouffée and I'm not going to Razzoo's to get it. Any suggestions? The closer to the mid cities, the better.

There is not a lot of great cajun in Dallas, but I like Nate's Seafood in Addison.

Depends on what you want to pay. Buttons in Fort Worth is great, but $$$.
I live in Arlington, and I like Damian's Cajun Soul Cafe on Hwy 360 and Abram. Everything served on styrofoam plates, byob as well. And their soul food is really their specialty. But great ettoufee.

I'll have to try Damian's. That's not too far from me. I don't mind paying more if it's worth it.
By the way, I didn't even see it on the menu at Button's.
I wouldn't call buttons Cajun, but you are right about it being good (if its the same buttons that's in Addison).
I went to alligator cafe last weekend and thought it was amazing. By far the best Cajun I've had here. We went to the one by white Rock lake bc we had a groupon but there is apparently one in deep ellum too.
We tried some of everything and it was all great, étouffée, gumbo, red beans, collared greens

No, Buttons is more upscale soul food. But they have some cajun. Gotta admit I always get the waffle and chicken there so I've never looked to closely at the menu.
And Damiens is cheap.

I get takeout from the Alligator Cafe about once a month, and I always get the crawfish etouffee and fried green tomatoes (which are great). I didn't know they had opened a second location, thanks for the heads up.
Dodie's on Greenville is my go-to. The old one has more fried stuff, the new one has good stuff and some fringe foods for those who don't like true Cajun.
Have heard good things about Alligator Cafe from my coonass friends.
The Cajun Tailgaters food truck is great. I think I saw that they have an actual restaurant now too. Not sure where though.
Alligator cafe in Casa Linda is better than the Deep Ellum location. Place is legit though, great food, and on weekends they always have a band or someone playing some music there in the front!

frilly's is ok.. Bayou Market in Lewisville has some good poboy's. Their frozen stuff is ok in a pinch.
I really like bayou jack's. At least they offer more than just gumbo...

Two Sisters in Hurst was opened by some Katrina transplants. I've only been once but i liked it.

oh and i wouldn't call either of those great. but they're good alternatives to Pappadeaux prices.

Interesting. They are opening up a Bayou Jacks in downtown McKinney soon. I'll have to try it out.
Every time I've been to Nates it sucks.

Boo Ray's in Fort Worth, off of Boat Club Road, has always been good the times I've gone there.
Drove all the way to Damian's and they were closed. Found a little hole in the wall place in Arlington called Destiny's Cajun Express. Waiting for my shrimp étouffée now.
OK. That was very good. Getting some to go, too.

Appeared to be a temporary thing. They have very limited hours to begin with but there was a handmade sign near the door that simply said "sold out" so maybe they ran out of food or something. I don't know. Will definitely call before I try heading there again.
Sorry about that - I've never had that problem, but I live in Arlington so it wouldn't be as big a deal to me.
And that Destiny's place was good? I've driven by there numerous times but never been.

The shrimp etouffee at Destiny's Cajun Express was very good. Could have used more shrimp in there but that was my only complaint. Honestly would have preferred crawfish but their menu is limited.
Hate the gumbo at Offshores, its like they season it with chili powder. They do have some other items that are good. Just not the Gumbo.
Freeman is supposed to be pretty darn good. Now i want some gumbo.
