Looking to take the Mrs. 03ki11erag out for her birthday and originally looked at Dakota's Steakhouse because the atmosphere looks pretty cool, but a buddy of mine said he prefer's Nick & Sams. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dakota's is pretty small and is really more of a downtown lunch spot. The food is great though and the atmosphere I would describe as 'cozy'. Nick and Sam's is amazingly good, but can be really loud, especially in that huge middle dining area.
Nick and Sam's, without question.
They're hardly even in the same conversation.
This is my top 6 steakhouses in Dallas list...most everyone will agree that, not necessarily in this order, these are the best 6...or their #1 is likely among these.

Pappa's Bros.
Al Biernat's
Del Frisco's
Bob's
Eddie V's
Dakota's comes in around #15-20, IMO.

Pretty much agree with that list. If you venture over to Fort Worth, check out Grace.....just absurdly good. In Dallas, Nick and Sam's, Al Biernat's, and Pappas Bros are my top 3.
I mostly agree with that list, but would exchange Capital Grille for Del Frisco.

Bob's gets a lot of points for atmosphere and experience, but for just the food, I'd swap it for Capital Grille.
Also no love for III Forks on here? I've only been there once several years ago, but it was pretty top notch.
And back to the original question, you'll never go wrong with Nick & Sam's. Fantastic bone-in filet, and probably the best service I've ever had.

I'm a huge fan of Kenny's woodfire in Addison. The menu and the food they serve are excellent.
Kirby's Woodfire on Greenville is a favorite as well but mainly because it's very close to my house.

Good call on III Forks, Scriffer. Easily up there. Kirby's is alright, but I find it pretty average in terms of 'white tablecloth' steak houses.
IMO Kirby's is a big bag of meh.

~$50 a plate which after appetizers and drinks would be around ~$150 for two. I'm sure you can rack up more, but anything over that, even for a special occasion is more than I want to spend.

Well, wine is out for me, can't stand the stuff. I occasionally get the urge to take my wife somewhere "nice". But these threads successfully knock me back down to Earth. Maybe some day.

Nothing but positive reviews from people about Dakotas in my office downtown.
Is there a good $50-$75 per person place?
If you don't go nuts, Bob's will fit the bill. Sides are included, and you can get a reasonable bottle of wine with dinner. (This is coming from a non-wine drinker.) It's not up there with the premier steakhouses, but it's worth the money there.
