Anybody live in the Sparkman Club area of Dallas? Thoughts?

Have some friends who have lived there for several years and love it. They live down the street from the clubhouse with pool & tennis. Lots of community spirit -- the whole neighborhood does a great 4th of July parade.

They aren't Aggies but several of their neighborhood friends are. I'm sure the wife of the family would be happy to talk it up with you if you want her number.

I know 2 couples that live in Sparkman Estates very well. They both love the area. The neighborhood not only does the 4th of July parade but they also have a chili cookoff every November. You won't go wrong living there.

And yes one couple I know are Ags the other went to Tech. There are a few other Ags in the neighborhood too.

Thomas, what street do you live on? One on Camelot has sparked our interest.

There is also one I came across on Royal Club that is coming up next week, but it's smaller (1851sf) than the one on Camelot, and backs up against Webb Chapel. Asking will likely be in the $219K-$225K range, but sellers are supposedly extremely motivated.

I am so excited for the Sears hardware concept to open. Was devastated when the Ace closed.

Blast from the past but the wife and I are beginning the home buying search and are interested in the area. Seems we would be really stretching to get into Midway Hollow or Stonewall/Lakewood Elementary and this hood is still in our price range. Anyone with more up to date takes on it?

Kinda depressing seeing the prices just 5 years ago given that they're roughly 50%-100% more now, but the same can be said just about anywhere else in town.

The friends I mentioned above are still there, and still love it.

The only thing that has changed since that post is that their son is now school-age (and I know schools are important to you). They decided to go with private, but many of their friends & neighbors with kids who are now in the 5-8 yr range took a shot with DISD (DeGolyer Elementary). With some exceptions, I believe most are pleased. I'll see if they have any more recent feedback.

Yes, my wife is a teacher and is on the fence re: Degolyer. We are hoping for at least a 7-10 year home so although we don't have kids now it could be a factor down the road. Not really keen on the private school route due to cost.

We moved a few years ago out of the area. We had no issues with the neighborhood in general. It was a great location for our first house and we made some money after 7 years. Saying that, we are really happy in LH.

Thanks for the input. One thing my wife is really keen on (both of us really) is the "neighborhood feel" and that it's like a small town in the middle of Dallas. Did you feel thats accurate or is it just like any other middle class neighborhood?

I will PM you my friend's thoughts. The gist of it is, all of their friends/neighbors with kids at DeGolyer seem to really like it.

As far as the neighborhood feel, from an outsider perspective it seems to be pretty strong. The biggest plus is the neighborhood clubhouse. I think for like $500 per year, you get access to the clubhouse, pool and tennis. And I believe that even if you later move out of the neighborhood, you have the option to pay dues and continue access to the pool, etc.

The neighborhood puts on a 4th of July parade that I try to make every year if possible. Below is a link to a slideshow of the July 4th celebration from 2009, but it may as well have been from last year:

I will answer this honestly. As of 4 years ago, there was very little neighborhood "feel". That may have changed as properties have flipped to younger families during that period. On our street, there were more seniors than young families and quite a few houses that had single bachelors that travel a lot, being close to both airports. IMHO, the neighborhood feel was not strong at all.

I appreciate the honesty!
