Needing to get some guitars hung in a room and was hoping to find an Aggie who does interior design and can help with the installation. Any suggestions?

I can't think of a worse thing to ask for an aggie specific reference than someone that does "Interior Design." I mean there might be one out there but "Interior Design" isn't really something aggies are known for.

I found one. http://baker-designgroup.com/tabid/218/Default.aspx

I realize they may not be "known" for it but if I'm gonna hire someone to come into my house I'd prefer to support an Ag.

If you end up not liking the price you get, and just need someone to consult on the general look of the project, I have a couple of friends with interior design degrees who do freelance work on decorating projects.

Neither one went to TAMU, but they're perfectly nice and I can vouch for both of them.

No problem! I know it's hard to find a designer for a small project, so I'm happy to help.

AggieHMF, I'm actually looking for an interior designer to come talk to my junior high classes as we begin our design project. If you talk to your friends and any of them are interested, I'd love to speak with them.
Comeby!

Make sure whoever you hire is a licensed designer. There is nothing that prevents decorators from calling themselves designers in Texas. Also, you're unlikely to find a licensed Aggie interior designer since we don't have an interior design program.

My Aggie buddies wife here in Dallas is an interior designer for a major company(Dallas Mavericks players are clients)- but she also does side projects quotes and hourly stuff.

She has an interior design degree from SWT/TX ST.

PM if you would like to be in touch.

out of curiosity what does it cost to get a decorator?

It depends on the project - some charge commission on all purchases, others an hourly rate, or both. I'd be surprised if it's less than $50/hr for someone who isn't a big name, and over $100/hr if they are.

And yes, it's true that "designer" often means decorator and the terms shouldn't be interchangeable. A designer can sign off on certain aspects of plans for new spaces and renovations and has to know all the building code requirements, and a decorator is mostly hired for their taste and sources fabric/furniture.
