So my wife and I are setting up 2 of our friends and its a double date so we are trying to think of a dinner that won't be awkward (these other 2 people have never met). I am thinking a Hibachi grill that puts on a good show would be a good setting. Only problem is we have not been to a Hibachi grill since moving from Houston to Dallas. Anyone have any recommendations? And trying to keep this reasonable in terms of price, don't want my buddy to have to throw down $100 on a first date with a girl he's never met.

Hibachi Rock in Allen or McKinney.

I like Tokyo No Hana on Walnut Hill and Greenville...it's not really all that nice, but the food is great and their lunch specials are cheap. Never been there for dinner before.

I'd avoid Benihana.

Allen/McKinney is a pretty good drive from where we live. What about Hibashi @ 635 and the Toll road? The reviews are good, but it looks like it may be pretty expensive. How much can you expect that place to cost for 2 people?

Or there is one not far from where we live called Hoshi Hibachi & Sushi on MacArthur. Doesn't seem to get as good of reviews though.

I highly recommend Jinbeh.

there's one in las colinas, one in lewisville, and apparently one in Frisco too.

Genghis grill is pretty good.

Kobe Steaks is more upscale and very good in Addison.

I drive past this place at 635 & MacArthur everyday, but I've never been. Website looks nice & Google gave good reviews

I would not recommend Jinbeh in Lewisville. Last time I ate there the next few days were not pleasant.

lol, lots of differing opinions.

i would second the tokyo place on greenville. however, i would say you might want to look into benihana's for your purposes. it may not be the best quality wise, but the chefs are entertaining and it's always busy, which will mean plenty of distraction to avoid any awkwardness between your friends.

My wife and I eat here fairly often - have always had good food and service, and it is not usually too crowded. There's a good chance that the 4 of you could end up at a station by yourselves. It is fairly expensive though - but most hibachi is. I would definitely recommend it.

Though I'm quite a fan, I don't think this is the kind of "It's a meal and a show" dining experience they are looking for. But now you've got me wanting some Genghis!!!

good point jaypunk.

Kobe Steaks is a meal and a show though.

Genghis wins when I don't want to pay ~30/plate.

Blue Fish in Addison, off the Tollway, I think around Frankford area. Haven't been there in a while, but we used to go a lot. They have a great hibachi area and a sushi bar, pretty cool bar if I remember right too!

The wife and I liked Hibashi in Addison better than Jinbeh (other locations) as it seemed much more geared to the younger crowd than a family type of place.

While the hibachi dining was similar, Hibashi had better sushi options and a much nicer bar area for before/after dinner drinks.

Yup! Kobe is actually pretty darn good! Last time I went, a few years ago, it was as good as ever, and I know they've remodeled since. Genghis is great for their variety. I've made dishes that tasted Italian there...it's great fun and tasty food.
