I am looking to get my Father and myself some golf lessons for Fathers Day. Does anyone know of any good pros in the Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, Rockwall area?

I like Pat O'Brien at the Practice Tee in Richardson. I have heard good things about the guys at Woodbridge, but have no personal experience with them.

Randy Smith at Royal Oaks in Dallas is the best in the area

Check out Ronny Glanton at Sherrill Park in Richardson....

Ronny is good but mainly for people with a little more experience. Dave Hassy at Sherrill is really good with people picking up the game.

Can you even hire Randy if you aren't a member? How would that work?

I'll do it for $50/hr, I'll even shoot video and give you a cd of you swing and how to correct your swing.

I have this V1 software so I can work on my own game and it helps a ton... LINK

I play Sherrill a lot, and while I haven't taken lessons out there, I've heard good things about Dave Hasse as well. Also seems like a good personality to get lessons from. I like Ronny, but he's a bit of a different bird + I can't remember the last time I saw him giving any lessons. Dude is pulling in $350k per year running the course, so I'm not sure he has much time or need for giving lessons to the random joe's of the world.

I'd recommend seeing if you can get a discount between the combined lesson + willing to buy a group of 3-5 lessons upfront. If you're serious about getting better, one lesson isn't going to do it - you need some reinforcement + practice inbetween.

Randy is definately the best. If I was a little better, I'd see if my youngest brother could get me a lesson from him, but with my game, its probably not worth it.

Thanks for all the information. I will look those guys up. Dad and I are hacks who have not played in years. He was talking of getting himself some new clubs, so I thought it fun to try and actually get some lesssons for both of us this time around.

I do not have a problem spending a couple of hundred for lesssons, but I may want more than one.

I was thinking about gettin 1 lesson mainly because I think its important for you and your instructor to mesh before making a long term commitment.

Here's another idea. Talk to Matt LaFollett at Ennis Golf. He teaches at the Brickyard in Ferris, and he charges $40/hr (I think). Reach him at (972) 875-4920. He doesn't do the video stuff, but he is effective. He also owns a shop in Ennis and has equipment that you can try if you would like.

Definitely try before buying big. You need to make sure you like the guy and his teaching style. What works for me or someone else may not work for you. I like Pat, as a low handicap golfer, because he doesn't try to make me fit a model mold of a swing. He make minor adjustments to MY swing and works to help me understand exactly what he is trying to get me to do and why. As someone who has been playing since being a young kid, nothing irritates me more than a pro who says "your doing it all wrong" change your grip, move the ball here, swing this way, etc. If I were a pro and could play everyday it would be one thing, but as a occasional golfer now, I don't have time to learn a completely new swing, I just need to work with what I have and tweek it slightly.

I was waiting for someone to say this ... I worked for him in college, and he's definitely a different sort of cat. I don't have any knowledge of his teaching skills, to be fair, but he never struck me as the patient sort. He IS an outstanding golfer, though.

Does Pat use video equipment?
How much does he cost?

I feel like I am on the brink of being scratch or close to it, but I just need to add some consistency (and of course short game). These 6s and 7s that I put on my card are killing me.

if your close to being scratch you need to work on putting.
