I'm considering getting lasik surgery done in the next few months. I'm getting sick of wearing contacts and I have horrible vision. I hear there are some really good doctors here in D/FW, but I'm not sure which one to go to.

I looked for old threads about this, but they all were a little old.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have not had this done, but based on feedback from people I know, Gary Tylock is quite good....... I would avoid Dr. Boothe..... one of my employees went there six months ago and her vision is still not 20/20....... she's had numerous follow-up appointments to make "adjustments", whatever the hell that means...

Absolutely Tylock. I know of 5 other people that went there and all loved it. I know 2 people who went to Boothe and neither had a good experience. I had mine done at Tylock and it's the best money I've ever spent.

I had mine done at Boothe and had no problems at all, and I'm now 20/15.

Dr. Boothe mangled my mothers eye so bad that it constantly waters and does not open as well as the other one.

He messed her up pretty bad. (and all of this was before the actual surgery. he messed her up so bad pre op that she couldnt have the procedure done.) This all took place in January of 2008 so it wasnt a long time ago.

Dont let the cheap commercials and radio ads persuade you.

Exactly.... Boothe advertises for "starting at $700 per eye"....... the person I know wound up spending over $3,500 for the procedure!!

Clearview Laser Vision in Southlake. No advertising, word of mouth only.

Think about it. Don't waste your money on paying for Tylock/Booth/etc's advertising bill.

Cooter...did you go to this doctor for your lasik? If so...how did you like it?

I can recommend based upon my own experience that Henry Gelender did a great job. It is not quite 20/20, but I think 20/25 is close enough.

East Texas - My wife had her Lasik done there. I went through the evaluation but elected to wait since my eyes have not required glasses very long.

They were very good and there is no sales job in trying to get your business. Very honest and want you to have a good experience no matter who you choose. My wife had excellent results. Being in Southlake, I expected the price to be high, but it was a little lower than what I've heard others pay.

Boothe did my eyes and my wifes back in 2004/2005.

We're quite happy seeing 20/20 or better.

I went to Key-Whitman and have referred several others. They have a free info session with free food, and they give you a $100 voucher to be used toward the surgery.

I'm going to start looking into Lasik in the near future. I've heard a wide range of prices (as low as $700 an eye, to upwards of $2000 an eye). What is everyone paying?

I've also heard that some doctors are beginning to specialize in different types of vision (near sighted, far sighted, or astigmatism). Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

If they are using the newest technology (which you want) then expect to pay 1700-2000 per eye depending on how much advertising they have to recoup.

I checked out 3 of the 4 major lasik clinics before finally pulling the trigger with Carter. Only complaint I have had is that I should have done it sooner. I have been amazed by the results and find it hard to believe what hell my vision/contacts used to give me.

I had a horrible experience at Boothe. Was treated like a head of cattle and was even given the hard sell treatment. "If you sign up for surgery right now, you can secure this price. Otherwise, I'm not sure what it will cost and when will be able to fit you in since this promo ends today and we have alot of people taking advantage of THIS GREAT OFFER." No, I'm not kidding. This is EXACTLY how the conversation went. Plus, I had some issue doing one of the tests and the kid (a different guy) got frustrated with me and treated me like ****.

I could have easily chosen to go to Tylock. I had horrible vision and several other problems with frequent eye infections and poor tear production, so in the end I decided on Carter. I knew he had been doing cataract surgery for years and I just felt more like I was working with an eye doctor instead of signing up for Lasik.

I have also heard good things about Whitman, but can't say one way or the other.

Good luck!

I have a co-worker that went to Boothe and would just join the dogpile against him. Was definitely the cattle call operation, and the biggest issues were the follow-up exams. This person had to wait for 2-3 hours each time to get seen for their first couple of follow-ups in the few weeks after the surgery.

One of the observations was that Boothe is a complete a-hole that is very hard on his staff (my co-worker was shocked at how rude he was to some of his staff), so he's constantly dealing with turnover - leading to long waits and questionable folks workign there. They actually told this person that the turnover was the reason why the follow-up wait was taking so long.

I went to Key-Whitman on a recommendation from my ophthalmologist who has had patients that went to almost everyone around DFW and she's had the best relationship and success with him and now refers all her patients to him for Lasik. I had it done a year ago and couldn't be happier.

My wife had her Lasik done at booth and while the results are good, it was a bad experience. It was worse than buying a car with their tactics as described above and they move you through like cattle. I'm thinking about going to Tylock, but I'll have to check out Carter as well, thanks for the input.

Dr. Brian Ranelle was excellent. Had mine done in 2003 and I am still seeing 20/15. He has 2 offices (one in FW and one in Hurst). All his business is based on referrals and although he is busy, he doesn't treat you like another number. Went to Boothe for an evaluation and felt like I was being hurded into the slaughter house...

Ranelle will sit down with you and explain everything and give the personal attention I feel is needed when you talk about someone messing with your vision. Very professional experience and I am quite pleased with the results!
