Anyone know anything about Amica insurance? They seem really reasonable, but how good are they?

I've never had Amica, but I did get in an accident with a guy that had Amica and they treated us right, gave me a rental car and fixed my vehicle in no time flat without any hassles.

I've heard a lot of good things about them. Thought about using them for my homeowners when I moved recently, but decided to stick with State Farm out of convenience.

If you ever check out Consumer Reports, Amica is rated far and away the best insurance company that's available to the masses (USAA being the highest, but it isn't available to everyone). My in-laws use Amica, and their customer service is unreal ... I'm sticking with USAA, personally, but if I wasn't, I'd choose Amica in a heartbeat.

AMICA is great!!! I use them for my renter's and auto insurance and get a very reasonable price. I've been in several car accidents, and the AMICA agents have all been super friendly and helpful!!!

The Texas Department of Insurance has some good information on the various insurance companies licensed in Texas. Also, A.M. Best's website gives financial ratings for all insurance companies, which may be an indicator of whether they will pay or fight claims.

Thanks guys! That makes me feel better cause I just got coverage from them this morning. I was a bit concerned because usually the cheaper the insurance...not so great. But the prices were about the same for a 12 month policy as I was paying farmers for a 6 month policy. Happy to hear I made a good choice.

I have Amica for both Home and Auto. Every year I get over $100 back (on homeowners only), based on how well the company does. There has yet to be a year where I haven't gotten money back.

I too have USAA, but would choose Amica if USAA wasn't available. We've had friends who have been with them for nearly 25 years and have never had any problems with them with homeowners' claims or auto claims. And, you know how many hail storms we've had in the D/FW area over that length of time! You made a good choice.

J.D. Power had AMICA ranked at or near the top last year if I recall. I would have gone with them as their rates were lower than mine at the time but I called AAA Texas and they blew AMICA out of the water.

Rates are one thing, claim service is quite another ... Places like J.D. Power and Consumer Reports are ranking Amica and USAA at the top for a reason, and it's not their rates. I'm sure I can find cheaper rates than what I pay for USAA, but I'm just as sure that I won't be able to find better service for ANY price.

I have filed numerous claims over the years with AMICA for both auto and home..... NEVER one issue or problem whatsoever! I have heard horror stories from friends about State Farm and Allstate.......

Amica is solid.

Had them about ten years , maybe more.

Wife got totalled by a Farmers driver. State Farm tried over and over to screw us rather blindly (paying $3k below blue book, and telling us we were getting a deal). They showed me their algorithm, which involved comps against newer models than what we had, only to reduce their value by 15% because they were newer models. BUt they kep saying that "we are using NEWER cars as comps!!!" but never mentioning that newer cars had a reduction of that x% for every year newer they were. They also used comps againtst inferior models and based off of want ads, which obviously would be lower than true retail value. Finally, we settled with Amica (our insurance) and allowed them to negotiate with Farmers which they ultimately did and we got the deductible back.

Had a roof claim, and they were quick and easy on that as well.

Lastly, we had a Volvo get rear-ended. When we took it to the repair shop, the guy told us "you are screwed, because every insurance company but two require us to use cheap Korean parts on Volco repairs" Volvo was one of the two exceptions that allowed Volvo-original parts for the repair.

You will always get cheaper rate offers on home insurance. I get them from Farmers all teh time and just laugh, knowing how they tried to screw me. I have neighbors jump at the offers, only to have their rates increase dramatically the next year.

Amica is like a marriage. Go in excecting to be a customer for life.

I agree that you have to consider service right up there with price. I have had Liberty Mutual, State Farm, and a couple of other insurance companies in the past and usually switched because of rotten service or ever increasing premiums for no reason. Mr. LLA was an Army officer during Viet Nam and, when we found out in the early 80's that USAA had expanded their membership to include former officers, we jumped at the chance to join them. Haven't had a moment's regret and we just passed our 25 year anniversary with them. We have very good friends who have had Amica for that long and they, too, are policy holders for life. So, apparently, Amica is as good as USAA.

increasing premiums for no reason.

I hear this a lot from many people. There is never an increase for no reason as I'm sure you truly know. It may not be driver related but know that insurance is not immune to inflation. The prices of milk, gas and other goods increase every so often but so why not insurance. I can understand a 20% increase being upsetting and if that is the case, by all means shop around. But please don't confuse a 2% increase with a penalty on you as a driver.

I understand that every year your premiums are readjusted. No problem.

But when an agency offers some ridiculous teaser rate to get everyone to jump, and then the next year it goes up by 30% I think I know what they are doing. Also, one of the major players dropped a slew of people in my neighborhood after a hail storm. Seriously, a hail storm?

Amica has yet to pay my deductible and my insurance company for an accident in May 07.

That's odd ... my mother-in-law was in an accident last week (her fault). She called Amica, and took her car in for an estimate on that same day. The next day, she dropped off her car to be fixed, and the shop already had a check from Amica to cover the bill. I was amazed.

probably my fault for not calling the police - having to rely soley on my and 2 other witness statements.

I should clarify. They're not my insurance company. My insurance is trying to recover my deductible from Amica, who insured the at-fault driver who rear ended me. Bottom line, ill never see a dime & always call the police.

Edited for syntax and clarity

Very likely the other party (the one with Amica) is claiming that it is not their fault. The insurance company is typically going to take the word of their insured unless hard evidence shows differently. I've seem these situation take more than a year to clear up if they ever do.

Regarding the police report, you would be surprised how many fail to call the police especially in a parking lot. now the insurance company does not have to use the police report in their decision to pay a claim or not but it sure makes it harder for them to justify denying your claim if you have it. Lessons learned, always get a police report.

I've used AMICA for my home owner's insurance since 1993. I have been very happy with their prices & service.
