The city offered $1.9 million under imminent domain but got sued and just agreed to pay $88 million to take over the airport's South Terminal thus allowing new construction.

Don't worry the taxpayers got this, just like every dumb move the city makes.

This news is about a year old

This was a fair outcome for both the city and they guys with the lease. If Central Texas wants to continue to grow we need a bigger airport. The city actually didn't their part for the tax holders and tried to lowball the lease holders and they lost and have to pay.

Austin's airport is a top airport in terms of quality to the consumer but it's too small to service the laptop class who has moved her. Similar to San Antonio losing ATT over its airport, Austin faces the same challenge as business travel budgets have returned

I don't have any personal knowledge, but the article says:

1. In February, the Travis County Probate Court ordered the city to pay as much as $90 million and enter into mediation.

2. The settlement will be paid out of the airport's general fund which receives no Austin taxpayer dollars.

And where will those funds come from? Even Kylelites like me will be taxed for it.

A big international airport collects lots of taxes by itself.
Whether some of that tax should have gone to the city instead of paying for this mess up is the question.

Hopefully from those who use the airport including those from Kyle because I doubt you are driving SAT in protest. Here are some stats and decent reading material including funding before my own advice and ignore the noise The record for passengers prior to Covid was 1.7M passengers which now the average month at ABIA

Passenger Activity: Total passenger traffic for January December 2022 was 21,089,289, up 55.40%, compared to January December 2021. January December 2022 enplanements totaled 10,571,208, up 55.41%.

And agreed mods have made it clear by practice and through email they support F16 having a free pass to go and do what they please.
It makes sense for them from a business perspective, that's gotta be the highest clicked forum outside of football during the season, so lots of Ad revenue generated by them

Potcake flagged you for talking bad about the city. Ridiculous. But here we are.

Oh well, I don't think Keeper was offended by the banter and neither was I. I always say if you dish it out, you have to be able to take it too.

As always you're FOS. I flagged for 78's multiple potshots at Keeper and I have no idea who Keeper is irl but this isn't the GB, Old Rivalries, or 16, although several of you are trying to make it a satellite. Disagree with me, Keeper, or whomever all you but I will flag the F16 childish name-calling.

I don't remember what the post said but usually, atleast when I reference another posters handle directly, it will get pulled if flagged

I think it said something like fanboy or some other such non sense

Anyways totally agree, as stated many time I prefer this not be a satellite board of 16 or General but I'm not the boss

The general fund income comes from parking fees, rental car fees, tenant leases, and gate leases. I don't know about Bergstrom, but I'm on the board of another Class C airport in Texas and none of it is funded through property, sales, or any other local taxes.

The FAA (mostly federal debt dollars mixed with a little bit of federal taxpayer dollars) funds 90% of most projects that pertain to passenger service with the remaining 10% coming from the airport. Most airports also collect a passenger facility charge (PFC) of $4.50 per departing airline ticket. PFC funds must be spent on passenger service related services or projects and PFC spending has to be approved by the FAA.

The FAA does not allow funds collected by the aiport to be given to the municipality if the airport recieves federal funding. The airport can pay the municipality for services such as fire, police, utilities, etc. City council is always looking for ways to squeeze money out of our local airport as it's probably one of two departments in the city that are self-funding.
