I know this might be the wrong board but wanted to see if anyone knows a golden retriever breeder around Austin. I've looked on Craigslist and it seems like there are definitely some scam artist using the guise of the puppy to fraud people.

Gold Ribbon Rescue. Wife helped a friend get through paperwork and he got a young golden that came from Turkey. They also rescue American goldens too.

There are purebreds available with rescues and breeders who have turn backs.
Google Golden Retriever Rescues, Petfinder.com, etc.
Our last three dogs have been expensive purebreds sold to homes not remotely prepared to provide proper care.
It is possible to "have it all".

So true. Amazing how many people do not know how to raise dogs and/or do not research the breed more then 'it looks cute'.
I live Jack Russell Terriers. But researching them they are just not a good fit in my home. So a standard poodle fit our needs much better. Here is Ranger

Heads up, if you are willing to drive a few hours, you can save yourself about 1k than buying one around Austin. I went to Oklahoma just because I was already headed that direction, but even in Dallas they are more affordable than breeders around Austin.

Grand Oaks Goldens is in Hallettsville, about 2 hours from Austin. We got the best dog from them - our girl is coming up on a year old now and is seriously the best dog a person could ask for.
