Desperate times.
We had a few weekends in a row of car break ins in our neighborhood. No one broke any windows just went to every car and opened the handle to see if it was locked. If it wasn't then they hit up the inside and glove box to snatch and grab.

Very true. I saw the video of the attempt I mentioned. Good thing the lady was aware of her surroundings as they tried to pin her in a second time after the first guy exited the car. She was able to squeeze past them as they rammed her car.

I always tell my wife....crash the car, do whatever it takes, but don't give in.

Crime has risen in that area recently. Wonder if it is anything to do with the homeless encampments around there now.

Dumb question...but thieves checking for unlocked car doors...has that always been a thing, or are we just seeing it now because of all the cameras?

That is happening in just about every neighborhood, seemingly every night. They've gotten me twice in a few years...and nearly all my neighbors as well at some point or another.

I don't remember that being so common until the last several years. Now it seems like there's a nieghborhood post about it every single night.

We've been in Brentwood since 2012, so before the proliferation of Ring cameras. We had a Yahoo group which always had posts of someone rifling through unlocked cars, carports, etc. which seemed mostly crimes, if anything was stolen, of opportunity.

These types of crimes is why I leave nothing of value in my car. So if I don't lock I am not worrying about it.

Me too Steve.

I drive a soft-top Jeep so I do the same and rarely lock it. Usually the most I would lose is some change and a store of dog poop bags. That is around town, it is in garage at night.

I've always wanted to hit someone with my vehicle.
