Alright, I promised an update after I got all my work done. To the OP or anyone in the Round Rock or Georgetown area, I would highly recommend either Mickan Motors in Walburg or Georgetown Interstate Transmission in Georgetown. In the past week I've done business with both and really liked them both.
Mickan is a 2-3 man show. I spoke with Danny Mickan the most (who has two kids at A&M right now). Super nice guy. Seems very genuine and left me no reason not to trust him. I have a 2007 F-150 and I sent him a long list of things I needed done. He was able to do everything I wanted except the transmission work. He recommended I take it to Georgetown interstate for that.
Mickan changed my oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter, changed the spark plugs, removed and cleaned the throttle body, installed new shocks/struts, changed my rear diff fluid, inspected my wheel bearings, inspected my brakes, changed the serpentine belt, gave everything a good once over and did my safety inspection all for $1,100 after tax. When I went to pick the truck up he walked me out and went over everything he did with me and told me what he found. Based on everything I wanted done, I expected his price to be double what it was. So I was happy. NTB quoted me $1200 just to change the shocks and struts, and the Ford dealership wanted $675 just to change the fluids and filters. I felt like I got a good deal.
Georgetown Interstate Transmission is a larger shop. I don't know their affiliation with A&M, but they had some A&M stuff on the walls and counters so that gave me a warm fuzzy. I dealt with Gene, who's the manager. Super nice guy. He seemed very knowledgeable and great with the customers.
My first trip there was just to get my transmission flushed and new fluids put in. That went great. $263 out the door. I don't know what a transmission flush should cost, but I was happy with that price. Today was a second trip. Something in my front suspension has been popping and getting worse. I thought it was the worn out shocks, but after having them changed it was still there. I chose to go back to GIT mainly because they were closer to me and I didn't wanna pay for a Lyft ride all the way to Walburg and back again. I described the problem and left my truck with them. A couple hours later Gene called me and said both my sway bar end links needed to be replaced, and also the ball joint and upper control arm on my driver's side. As he was telling me this I was imagining another $1500, but it was $609 out the door (including a "lifetime" front end alignment). I didn't realize just how loose my front end was until I got it back today after they fixed it. The popping and shaking and everything is gone. It drives like a whole new truck.
So, bottom line...I'd highly recommend either one of these places, with a slight nod to Georgetown Interstate simply because they're 10 miles closer to me (and because they do pretty much everything whereas Mickan pretty much only does maintenance type stuff).
