See letter sent to residents of my neighborhood yesterday, which contains some links to appropriate areas:
My fellow BCW neighbors,
As many of you have heard, the City of Lakeway made a proposal to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) that would involve a toll-road bisecting the land between Barton Creek West and the Lake Hills Church. Lakeway requested $3 million be allocated for a feasibility study on an elevated 6-lane toll road to help alleviate congestion on RR 620 and create a bypass around Lakeway and Bee Cave.
At this point, the HOA Board would like to remain neutral with respect to the political and regulatory process taking place, but wants to provide our residents with as much information as possible.
Below please find information and links for your reference, which we will continue to provide as it becomes available. Please note that some of this information has been provided by residents and has not been verified.
Media coverage and a map is available through the Bee Cave Bee posting
here. There was also a very helpful article with excellent quotes published in the Statesman on July 4, 2014. Unfortunately you must have a Statesman account to access the article, but it can be located in the archives for that date under the headline, "Lakeway eyes traffic relief via old expressway loop."
On September 8, 2014, there was a public CAMPO hearing at which the proposal was discussed. Several BCW residents attended that meeting. The agenda for that meeting is available
here. One resident's summary of that meeting is available on a
private website created by a neighbors' son. The website also has information about the toll and advocates rejection of the project. It also has a link to an
on-line petition to stop the toll.
According to CAMPO, the request for a feasibility study is still just a proposal.
According to the CAMPO representative at the September 8 meeting, members of the public have until October 6, 2014 to submit comments to CAMPO for consideration in their vote during their next monthly meeting as to whether the feasibility study should be approved. Any such comments can be submitted by emailing CAMPO representative Dan Dargevics at dan.dargevics@campotexas.org.
CAMPO also created an
on-line survey for citizens to provide feedback with respect to the proposed feasibility study. That survey states that the public comment period is scheduled to close at September 30, 2014 at 12 p.m.
Additionally, CAMPO encourages citizens to contact their elected officials - Commissioner Gerald Daugherty (Gerald.Daugherty@co.travis.tx.us) and Judge Biscoe (Sam.Biscoe@co.travis.tx.us - (512) 854-9555). Please note that Judge Biscoe is retiring and will be replaced by the official elected in November. The Democratic candidate for his position is Sarah Eckhardt and the Republican candidate is Mike McNamara.
The CAMPO board will make their official vote on October 13, 2014.
In order for the feasibility study to be approved at the October 13 meeting; CAMPO
emphasizes that it would have to be approved by all jurisdictions affected.
If the feasibility study is rejected at the October 13 meeting, Lakeway could try to request
that the project be included as part of the 2040 budgeting plan year (please note that CAMPO
indicates 2040 is not actually reflective or a project start or end date, it is simply a budgeting
plan year). If that were the case, Lisa Weston at CAMPO would be the person to contact. Her
email is lisa.weston@campotexas.org
