Building a new house and I am sodding the back - it is about 2400 sq. feet. Anyone have recommendations in the area? If the price is right, I would like it to be installed.

For 2400 square feet, it's gonna cost you.

FWIW, I got 450 square feet at the Grass Outlet.. installed it myself. The grass itself was $160/pallet. But, it requires much less water, etc.

You can probably get bermuda, zoysia, or st. augustine cheaper. Buffalo grass does well when you water it less.. does not do well when you water it more.

If I could do it over again (and was actually not closing on the sell of my house in 3 weeks), I'd go with Zoysia.

I'm not aware of anyone who does grass installation, but I'm sure they are out there.

I also did the Grass Outlet but only bought 1 pallet of the Palisades Zoysia. Really good stuff, but just that one pallet shipped and delivered was $276 bucks. I tilled and amended my soil and had it all prepped, so installing was fairly easy. Now isn't the best time to put in sod with the intense heat and demands for water. Covering that much space with sod will really add up, especially if you have someone else do it.

One other thing - the pallets ship with the top squares of grass flipped over to protect the top. This dries out the sod/roots so much that these squares never recovered and no amount of watering saved them. Just something to consider when laying them out.

I also bought a pallet of St. Augustine from the Grass Outlet, and had it delivered to my driveway. I was very pleased. Installation is a lot of work, especially if you are doing 6 pallets, but it might save you some cash.

And yes, I would wait till the Fall to install.

1. Buy six pallets of grass from the grass outlet and have it delivered.
2. Find x number of people from Texags that will help you install the grass for a nominal fee.
3. Profit?

I'd be interested in helping you out.

Any of the local landscaping suppliers will have installation crews as well as material.

I would be willing to drink your beer and supervise as other TexAg'ers are installing your sod.

The Grass Outlet is the best in Austin. Sod is always very fresh unlike other places and the prices are comparable to the competition. You have to give them notice because they cut to order.

You guys are awesome. Thanks! Yeah, I thought about installing it myself. I really love the different zoysia varietes. I was thinking it was going to cost me around $1700 with installation, but I am going to shop around now - sounds like it will be quite a bit more with installation. I appreciate it.

It took me 8 hours to install 2 pallets by myself last Summer when it was super hot. Not saying I was going fast by any means.

Well, I don't drink, but I do small jobs for reasonable $$ on the side.

Thanks again all! Yes, definitely going with Zoysia. Is there are particular kind of zoysia that does better here in Austin area than others?

I'm gonna throw out Celebration. It is a Bermuda hybrid. I had 44 pallets laid 3 years ago when I built and I love it. Less water and a beautiful blue-green color.

Oh and 44 is not a typo. I had ~19k sq. ft. Installed.
