Someone added "excited about the new HEB Mueller" to an e-mail that was going around titled "You're at least 30 when...".

Ofcourse all of my East side friends are working half days today to stop by the HEB for lunch.

Even though I don't do the shopping, I'd like a new HEB near by versus the one "we" currently shop at. Breaker and 183 HEB brings the suck.

We go to the Super HEB in Leander, so we don't have HEB issues.

Yeah, I know, first world problems.

Don't knock the HottiEB. It may be crowed but the view is always pleasant.

I live in Mueller and have had to endure the Hancock HEB.

Its not thattt bad. You just need to go at 10 or 11 at night and there are a couple parking spot then. Plus, decent people watching the later it gets.

The distance from my front door is less than 900 paces. That's why I'm excited. I'm not so excited about the mere existence of a grocery store as I am about the maturation of an alternative to lethally craptastic suburban sprawl.

Tried going saturday. Had a cop directing traffic and there was a huge line of cars waiting to fill up on gas.

Ended up at Hancock where the were giving away from ice cream floats and no line at the register.

Yeah. My wife said that it was an f'ing zoo on Friday. I've walked over there twice. Each time after 9pm. Oh, and I got gas on Saturday before 9am. It was not crazy at any of those times.

I think that most of the guys in the Reddit thread really don't get the degree to which that new HEB needs parking because it is the only really good grocery store for 2 miles in any direction and MUCH more than that in most directions.

Went there on Sunday for some Ice Cream. The only item we went to buy and they had zilch. Freezers were on the fritz.

I prefer the Hancock HEB. However the closest to us is the one at Springdale and Ed Bluestein. We call it H-E-Bqua... it's near La Sonic.

I ran up to Ace Mart on North Lamar this morning to pick up a couple of brisket related items, and stopped in the HEB right across the street. You can't complain about any other HEB unless this one is your neighborhood HEB. The Kosher HEB on Far West and the Allandale HEB are pretty poor compared to the big new Super HEBs, but this was like going to an HEB in a third world country.

^^^^^ I used to live a mile from that HEB (I lived at Parkfield/Rundberg area). We dreaded going. WE ended up stopping going there for anything as it was just that bad. My wife was followed in there by some guy just taking pictures of her (she ended up talking to someone working there who followed her/him around and verified before kicking this guy out). That was her last straw there.

Looking at the weekly ad for that store and comparing it to Hancock is good for a laugh

I've now been to the new HEB 7 times. 3 on foot for groceries and 4 for gasoline (and also some groceries). My trip count was artificially spiked by a birthday party for our 5-year-old on Saturday.

The most amazing spectacle out of the whole deal has been the gasoline lines at both the HEB and the Speedy Stop across the street, which has matched the prices.

There are gasoline lines at both places at 10PM.
