Wife has a B-day tomorrow and was thinking about taking her there for dinner.

Is it as good as advertise?

Is it formal dining? meaning do men have to wear a coat?

It's good grub. Probably run about $100-125 for both of you including drinks and dessert. I have seen folks in there really decked out and others not so much so. Dress up since its her birthday.

I think it's by far the best restaurant in town. It can be expensive but I've never had anything there that wasn't very good. If you just get a meal it will probably be $50+. If you get drinks, dessert, etc. You can get to $100 pretty easy.

There is no dress code that I'm aware of. I've seen people in there in shorts and a t-shirt. For guys if you where kakhi's and a polo you'd be fine. If you want to dress up you won't feel out of place.

If you call ahead and make reservations, tell them it's your wife's birthday and they'll probably bring you some type of dessert plate that says "Happy Birthday."

South American beef tenderloin with those vetable enchiladas. . . mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I disagree that this is the best place in town. The Republic and Maddens have them beat hands down for fine dining. I also enjoyed Veritas more than Christopher's. JMHO. If you're looking for a little less pricey but nice, try Square One Bistro. I just found Christopher's very ordinary for the price.

I love Christopher's. It is always nice to dress up for a special occasion, but it is not required. I also enjoyed both Veritas and The Republic.

I like Madden's as well, but they are not open for dinner except Thursday-Sunday, unless this has changed since August 21st. We tried to make reservations for our anniversary, but they were not open for dinner.

For an appetizer, ask for the Vietnamese Egg Rolls.

If it's not on the menu, ask your server if they can ask the cook if they have any. They almost always have them whether they are on the menu or not (because they are so freakin' popular, people like me ask for them year-round).

Trust me, they're worth it.

I'd rather go to Madden's, The Republic, or Little Blue Heron (in that order).

Madden's is without a doubt the best in town...you can not find better sea scallops ANYWHERE! After that, I vote for the Republic..and then, go to Houston... I have been unimpressed w/ Christopher's the last couple of times I went....overcooked beef, salads served on hot plates (pet peeve of mine)....although I will say they do have good waiters..

I think that all listed are from decent to good. I also think that Cafe Eccell should be on the list. Best seafood for sure.

I've heard great things about the new menu at Christopher's. But, Republic and Madden's are wonderful as well. Little Blue Heron has some wonderful seafood crepes also...

Sad to report that Little Blue Heron has closed, I believe.

No, it's across the street in the Chimney Hill Shopping Center (west of the Hilton).

I know next to nothing about "fine dining." However, I had lunch at Madden's recently and really enjoyed the food there. I'd definitely go back. And, Tara is really nice, too.

Thank you all for the replies............I will take the wife to Christophers tonight, just to get it out of the way kind of thing..........been to all of the restaurants mentioned above, all good IMHO.
