Where is the best Tex-Mex in the BCS? I'm sure there is a thread about this already started so if somebody could just post the link, I'd appreciate it.

You are not going to get the same answer from anybody on this board. Everyone has their favorite and every restaurant has their hater.

Expect every answer given here to be slammed by someone else.

I haven't found a restaurant in BCS that can make Tex-mex as good as my mom and dad.

There are a handful of restaurants that I've never tried though.

Everybody seems to like Coco Loco (Welsh & SW Pkwy) as a nice hole in the wall type place.

mi cocina is perhaps the worst tex-mex there is. i dont understand how people like that place so much. other than the price...

That's because it's not so much Tex-Mex as it is Mexican. I love it.

hahahahaahha

that's the funniest thing ive ever heard. mi cocina is as much mexican food as taco bell is.

you guys wouldnt know real mexican food if it was sitting right in front of you.
not trying to be an ass, just growing up with REAL homemade mexican food makes it amusing...

tex mex is it's own type of food. it's as different from real mexican food as chinese is from italian. yes, you're gonna use some of the same ingredients along the way, but they taste completely different.

The first time we visited Mexico I realized that Mexcian food does not include cheese and sour cream. I thought Mexican food WAS cheese and sour cream!

I decided that must be the difference!

I've heard that Jose's is similar to what you would get in northern Mexico. But not having eaten in northern Mexico, I wouldn't know. But I do know that I like Jose's. Oh, and Los Nortenos is good in downtown Bryan. I've been going there since 1989.

I KNOW! That's what I said! I didn't think they brought what I ordered. I think there was cheese, but it wasn't the cheese I'm used to.

It was good, but it wasn't my kind of Mexican food!

i would only recommend mi cocina if it was the only tex-mex/mexican food within 50 miles..

WoMD is right. Mexican food != TexMex. And Mexican food tastes like a$$.

If you want Mexican food, go to El Tio in downtown Bryan. I love that place. Open 24 hours too.

i ate at cazadores for the first time last week and it was really pretty good and on the cheap. i was pleasantly surprised.

ive been going to cazadores since it opened. they used to have amazing service. (still do). but back then, when my friend and i were the only ones there, they had our queso at the table before we even sat down. and then the main course came no more than 3 mins later. of course they got slower, but only because they got more popular. love cazadores.
Jabberwocky

Cazadores has pretty decent margaritas, too, or used to. I haven't been there in a few years...maybe it's time to go back.

WoMD, maybe Mi Cocina isn't very "authentic" Mexican, but I think it's at least more Mexican than it is Tex-Mex. And like all major cuisines, Mexican food varies pretty widely by region, so perhaps Mi Cocina's food is merely different from the Mexican that you're used to? (I don't mean to sound arrogant—I'm certainly no expert; it's just an idea.)

Zapatos has good tex-mex. Coco Loco is descent but overpriced, and Mi Cocina is fair.

As for mexican food I second or third Los Nortenos in downtown Bryan, this is the only place that really compares to descent mexican food that I have tried up here.

I can't think of the name of it, but the little mexican food place in the next to Hastings in Bryan is pretty good, too. It isn't typical fare - good change of pace. And I think Mi Cocina is bad.

the name of that place is Los Molecajetes. or something very similar. they use a mole (mol-ay) sause that contains cocoa. so some of their dishes are a little sweater than you may be used to. so if you want a variation on your mexican food, that may be the place to go,
Jabberwocky
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's "Los Molcajetes," and the name has nothing to do with mole sauce. A molcajete is a type of mortar used in cooking.

I like their mole, though it is a little on the sweet side.

I'm telling you people... El Tio in downtown Bryan. It's basically run out of a trailer. The Coca-Cola is imported directly from Mexico, bottle written in Spanish and everything. I might just go there tonight.

Papa Perez in downtown Bryan. They are really good and cheap. I love their fried avocado stuffed with chicken and cheese!

Now I'm getting hungry.

If you really want the true taste of Mexico, wait in one of the new subdivisions with lots of construction going on. Grab an interpreter and wait for a converted 1970ish delivery truck that perpetually leans to one side, smokes badly, and has a faded menu painted on the side to drive up.

Based on the number of...uh...immigrant workers that flock to these things, it must be good!

I've had food at Jose's and it's pretty much like what you would find in Northern Mexico. I know because I've also had food at Jose's place in Zsa Zsa. If you ask at Jose's they should make you a dish called En Palmas, very tasty!

Definitely agree that Papa Perez is good. So is Garpez in the chevron at the corner of hwy 6 & hwy 30
