I know this topic has been discussed already about 60 times...but I cant get the search function to work

so what is your favorite place for a great steak???

the filet at christophers was outstanding last time i had it.

the best steak for your money, i think, is roadhouse.

Solodaks in Snook is either a hit or a miss. Sometimes the steaks are great, other times we get a crappy cut. Cheap though. Me and my SO will order a medium steak, and an extra side and a drink and we'll spend around 20 bucks.

J Codys has very good steaks, I've only had one bad cut there. I like going there since the sides are awesome.

Roadhouse is good deal for the money and pretty consistent on quality.

I have not had a chance to go to Maddens, Christopher's, or Doe yet

oh i had the doe's king filet...something like 25oz.

it was really good. i prefer a ribeye but they didnt have any.

and that was expensive.

The Feed Barn in Bryan (not BARNHILLS) has a great steak special for $10 on Fridays, 10oz. Sirloin with sides and a salad. Normally it is still only $11 but I like to save the $1 to make me feel better

Doe's has a good steak but you will have to drop some cash, its not cheap. I agree that roadhouse is the best for your buck. IMO

Best steak - J. Cody's. Roadhouse is #2, but it's a chain. Stay away from Doe's.

If you're short on time go to Snook, the Czech-Tex is good. But for a real treat, take the time and the trip one Saturday to the Leona General Store. It's an old converted general store on Highway 75 about 10 miles north of Madisonville. Best Steaks in the State, and the price is worth the drive. The only thing lacking is the salad, everything else from the rolls, mashed potatoes, home made sweeet and iced teas to the hand cut aged steaks are the best. Its about a 45 minute drive and they're only open on Saturdays I think, but they are great.

I recommend HEB at Holleman and Texas - do it yoursel $16.00/+/- lb. Prime 2" ribeye grill 2 minutes turn 1/4 turn for those nice marks and grill another 2-3 minutes then flip and let grill 4-5 minutes on high heat but not direct heat - less for rare more for medium rare - hopefully you know how to use or own a meat thermometer or press the base of your thumb and palm to determine doneness - for meat lovers only (I grill the steak, make the dressing and eat the salad)

i was pretty impressed with bell ranch in the hilton the other day. i dont know if its the best, but i was pleasantly surprised.

not that place in somerville....that was a busted trip

i would say roadhouse (when comparing czech tex, does, sodalaks, outback, and somerville ....usually my cooking ends up tasting like cicis or pizza hut)

the Country Inn in Somerville used to be tops..hands down...I ate there quite often

but several years ago..the big guy that used to own the place sold to his x-wife and her husband and since then the place has gone directly into the ground....I have not been there myself in probably 7-8 years..but I hear it is pretty bad now

sad to because about 12 years ago or so..that place was regarded as one of the best steakhouses in the state of Texas

What I was going to say. There is no comparison to the Prime ribeye from HEB, cooked the right way.

I disagree - HEB cannot compare to a fattened calf that you take to a local packer.

You want REALLY good meat - go buy a high school kids calf at the local livestock show! (OK, make sure it is a European breed or European crossbred - don't buy a longhorn or Brahma or anything like that)

Here's another vote for Feed Barn. All the haters can get on here about eating at a place that has big picnic tables and concrete floors. Y'all go on to Christopher's and spend over $100 for steak for two people. Us Feed Barn people will be eating like royalty and laughing until daybreak.

agree 100%... it's the only way to go.
even their prime sirloin is better then most any steak you can get at a restaurant here in town. (if i remember its only $6.99/lb)
i'm thinking T-bone tonight... i know what we're having for dinner!

He had mentioned in another thread that it was a bad experience. I have to admit that the last time I went the service was slow and my steak was a little overcooked, but I'll definitely go back because I've always enjoyed it.

perhaps...but as Leonard said..I replied to another thread about this

went to Jcodys earlier this week...got the 16oz ribeye..ordered it medium and it came out closer to well done..not much flavor to it either..baked potato was so cold the butter did not even melt in it
the wife got sliced brisket and it came out cold(her plate was probably just sitting on the counter as they overcooked my steak)
we got there about 1 hour and 15 minutes before they closed..however over 90% of the chairs were already on the tables and everybody there was crammed into 1 little corner
service was very very slow as well

might go back in the future..but it will not be anytime soon

Yeah, I read this on the other thread. Sounds like you went on an off night for whatever reason. Did you say anything to anyone? Cody himself is usually there every day. I'm sure he would like to hear about this and would have made it right for you. I've been to Cody's more times than I can count over the 5-plus years he's been open, and have never had a bad experience with steaks or bbq.
