Thanks for the couple of people who actually had constructive ideas. I found a great home for her.

No one gets rid of a dog that has all those attributes unless they weren't planning for the future or ready for the responsibility.

Not to bust your balls, but I think selling a pet is very sad.

I agree that selling a pet is sad. My hubby and I had to sell one of our dogs (LONG story) and I still miss her.

she is a very pretty girl. I would take her if I didn't already have a full house. I am sure you will find a good home. consider giving her away, will you please? seems more fair to the dog.

If you give her away, I'll take her in a heartbeat. Seriously.

BCS has an AWESOME Golden Retriever Rescue group. They find GOOD homes for Goldens- they are pretty picky about a dog's potential owners and the people in charge of GRR are some of the biggest hearted people I have ever met. Their website is www.brazosvalleygoldens.com

Bet you didn't know that by posting this and trying to sell your dog to a good home, you would be put on trial for war crimes.

that is the nature of texags isn't it?

back on topic... i'd love to take the dog if i had room enough for two big dogs. already have one 8 mo old black lab.

i was just curious, and not trying to interrogate aggiepaintrain. the reason behind needing to find a new home for this beautiful dog is information that should be provided. and i wouldn't begrudge you if after taking this dog in, that you realized it was something that wouldn't be in your's or the dog's best interest. it shows you are mature enough to not neglect the dog and want to find it a good home.

and i noticed that you added your reason why. and that is a very good reason.

aggiedave that is a pretty harsh statement, and unfounded. there are plenty of legitimate reasons. and he's probably just trying to recoup some of the the vet costs. and i have no problem with that.

and it can be sad emotionally because of any bond that an owner has with a pet. especially a good one. which she seems to be. now if she was biting or aggressive towards other dogs and people, then that is an animal that needs to be put down or placed in a home that doesn't have children and isn't around other animals.

Your second paragraph (temperment around others) was clearly not the issue since the initial post indicated the dog was good with kids. For the most part, if a dog is a biter I agree they shouldn't be with kids. Hopefully a buyer knows whether the breed is a biter before they get it and have to be in a situation where they must give up the dog.

It doesn't make any difference to me that he's selling the dog v. giving it away. Either way the dog was brought into the home and now he has to get rid of it. Seems my initial comment is spot on.

By and large...many college students (i realize he is not one but how am i to know) get a dog and don't think twice about what will happen in 1 or 2 years when they graduate. To be honest, I don't think this guy's reason is any better. If that's harsh...oh well. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I know 2 people who in the past 6 months bought a dog only to sell it or give it away to someone else.

Pets are a lifetime commitment.

Now that we're all friends again, the dog above is still available.

Yes, I'd rather her be played with all the time, than sparingly and no she does not bite, come on.

Thanks for the heads up on the GR rescue site. I may just do that if I am unsuccessful..

I second the Golden Retriever Rescue here in BCS. They are a wonderful group and can give your dog a great home. Good luck finding a home.

You can contact the GR rescue by calling Wellborn Road VMC. Their directors are heavily involved (or at least last time I checked).

I have no problem/judgement about getting rid of the dog so it has a better life--my issue is just the selling of a pet, I guess. I don't know what I would do with a pile of money I collected from selling my dog. I wouldn't be able to touch it.

Good luck! She is such a pretty girl!!

If you cannot keep her there is no reason to be asking for money.

Seriously, if your #1 priority was finding the dog a good home, then money wouldn't be an issue. Don't punish the dog by asking for money when people are offering to take her in. You chose her as a pet, now it is your responsibility to find a good home for her.

I'll chime in here... It is kinda ****ty to sell a dog that isn't still a young puppy.

There are alot more important things to do with your time than judge someone you don't even know. I think you need to worry about your own life. Although, I understand it must suck since you all feel the need to comment on selling a dog. My choice to recoupe a tiny % of what I paid for her, I didn't get her free morons.

I mean go debate Freebirds, the cost of textbooks, the newest bar, the coolest hairstyle, the price of Starbucks, all of that real important stuff.

Now move along and leave the real world to the rest of us.

LOL! Politics, religion, the war in Iraq, selling a dog for money. You know, the real world.

Judging someone and offering up (perhaps illworded) advice as to why you're unsuccessful are two different things. Seriously, you'd have much better luck giving the dog away and wouldn't have to consider one of the rescues in town.

Just FYI- Wellborn Road VMC's new owner is not involved with Golden Rescue, other than providing some basic Vet care. The previous owners were the ones that were heavily involved with the rescue group. If anyone wants info on the group, it's best to go through their website and get the contact info there.

Still doesn't make you any less of an ******* for deciding money is worth more than a good home for your dog. You must not love animals.
