Looking for a reliable mechanic in BCS to diagnose and repair a misfire issue on my son's Tundra. Can anyone recommend a trustworthy mechanic in the local area?

At brazos Valley Automotive the owners are the ones at the front desk and making the phone calls to customers. They've always been honest and don't upsale unneeded services. And they do good work. They worked on a misfire for me and they let me drive it away without paying just to ensure it was the right fix because it was an odd issue to diagnose. It was right and I went back in and settled up a few days later.

A couple more anecdotes for you (and no, I'm not one of the owners). I had an issue with (what we thought) was my starter. They replaced it, still had the issue, they found the issue and fixed it, didn't charge me for the new starter because my previous one was still good. They said they shouldn't have replaced it and made me pay for them not finding the issue. Let me keep the new starter. Another time I had an issue and they told me to take it to the dealership because it would be much cheaper and they were spot on.

We had a horrible experience with them on my MILs vehicle. We had used them once or twice before and they were fine, but with hers it was a nightmare. Best guess is that they saw an elderly widow and figured they could rack up a nice bill- to the tune of over $1000 on a diagnostic fee we never authorized and they refused to give us the vehicle back until we paid even though it was never an approved test. (Should be a review out there about it). They also told her she needed a new engine or rebuild, and it would be 16,000 (she didnt). They tried to tell her that was the going rate everywhere around here (its not). I even spoke to the owner about it, he insisted that it was the going rate for a rebuilt engine.

Another post to vouch for Brazos Valley Automotive. They have been my go to mechanic for over 20 years. I've trusted them ever since I took my son's vehicle in thinking it needed a new water pump. It needed a new bracket. It cost me $12 instead of the $600 I was expecting.

BVA and Stratta are both good and honest.

Stratta for me. I have not been upsold, they will occasionally replace little things like old lugnuts, and they've been below what google told me I would be paying.

For that reason when I do have a problem I just tell him I trust him and let me know if it's going to be above $X for what I think the job might cost. I have never felt cheated there.

I've been using Wickson Automotive the past few years. Recently had them install a new transmission and they were $2k cheaper than 3 other shops I priced. Great work and fair pricing.
