All shattered in seconds on Bryan's west side last night by gunfire on Lowery Street. Bryan police are still investigating and putting information together but I've been told at least two young people were struck.


Young people were struck. We need a safer place for young people to have some fun and make summer memories before school starts.

prayers for the victims, the community, and that the authorities quickly find those responsible. I know from a shooting at my school, that their will be emotional victims not among those with physical injuries.

I'm confused. Where were the food trucks and fun for all the ages happening? Was it close to the shooting?

Makes it sound like it was in a different part of Bryan, but also it shattered all the fun?

As someone who has managed employees/large groups for 3 decades I find it interesting and predictable that the "dog days of summer" are the time we most encounter conflict/drama/fights/emotional outbursts.

My suspicion is that the stresses of the weather bring people to their breaking point, and the slightest thing can set them off. It's like living in an airport terminal for a few weeks a year.

I wish weather was the main issue with the violence we see, I am afraid there are other deeper problems that are unresolved.

I don't know who the shooters were, but as an educator, youth seem to lack the resilience to deal with problems and conflicts in those intermediate levels. They go all the way from mildly upset to off the chart violence instantly. As someone who has taught in every decade from 1970's till now, this is much worse in the last decade.

I think it's a spurious relationship, not causal.

It's not spurious. Probably multifactorial. Having trained at Ben Taub we always knew the gun and knife club would be wound up Friday and Saturday night in HTown. That was mass casualty before they called it mass casualty. Heat, emotions, alcohol, drugs, criminal activity and sweat are a bad combination.

The issue of a culture of violence has persisted since the very beginning and is now disseminated through an increasing number of media channels. Today's youth often perceive violence as the primary response, influenced by its prevalence in video games, films, music videos, and other forms of so called entertainment.
