Someone is leaving voice mails claiming to be from the Brazos County Sheriff's office…very official and urgent sounding. They confirmed it's a scam and to block the number. As an FYI the number I received was 979-312-4431. Be careful out there.

Got one last year claiming I had missed a federal jury summons. My choices were to pay $25,000 bond, or turn myself in to the Brazos County Sheriff's office. I could pay 10% of the bond at a "Federal" ATM.
After a momentary concern, I played along for a few minutes and then told him to go **** himself. Hung up and called the sheriff's office to report.

Got that call about a month ago. He asked for my wife then when I said he had my number he went into his scam. He gave me my old address for where the summons went so I'd have an aha moment and decide to take care of it. Instead I said I moved to Pebble Creek 18 months earlier and well before that summons would have been sent and this sounded like his problem. When he said I had to come to their office to fix this I said, "So, wait. I have to stop my day and drive to downtown Bryan because y'all were too ****ing stupid to check my address? Yeah, that ain't happening. You should come to Pebble Creek and handle this as an acknowledgment of how stupid you are. Don't make your problem my problem." I give him high marks he was undeterred. He even went so far as to say I can't hang up or even mute the phone and he was going to listen to me brush my teeth and get dressed. It was comically bad but he had one hell of a southern accent.

Yep this guy had a southern accent as well. And the number he said to call was the listed as the TAMU AgriLife office. Friends who work there were not amused.
mute your phone before answering and don't ever speak first. if nobody says anything, end it. I don't care who it shows up as.

Got a call like that. Asked him if he would bail me out, and I would pay him back later. Never called back.
Walk softly and carry a big stick! Make sure the big stick makes big boom noises and flashy bright lights.

I got the same kind of call a couple of months ago. The dude sounded legit at first, had the "cop speak" down and was even using the real name of a cop that I know of, unfortunately for the scammer the cop I know is a city cop, and this guy was claiming to be a county deputy.
More cracks started to appear in his story about a min or so in. I never actually lived at the address he had for me and so on. I messaged the cop that I know and let him know someone was using his name.
Seems like impersonating an LEO could/should land you in prison for a very, very long time.
Good luck finding and extraditing them from the phone scam farm in another country.
