...in College Station. Maddening. And I arrive juuuust in time for the light cycle to end so I get to sit through the full stop. I'm at the front of the line a lot.

Sorry. Just ranting.

ETA - no different than anyone else, though. Ignore thread.

Drive 35 mph. You can just coast down Texas Ave. most times of the day. Just don't do it in the left lane. Usually the only place that I might have to stop is University and Villa but all the lesser lights are green.

Sounds like we found the problem. Just blow through like everyone else in this town.

You do realize if you're getting a red light...someone else is getting a green light. Just means you're going the wrong way!

Couple weeks ago, I made it from Midtown/Villa Maria (taking Wellborn) to Fitch/Arrington hitting all green lights.

Easily top 3 moment of my adult life.

I made it from century square to the CS Walmart on Friday without one stop. Never happened before. I went down wellborn to get there to see the new Buc-ee's construction.
I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

Sounds like Wellborn is the way to go. The secret is out.

I made it from Greens Prairie down Wellborn to University before I hit a red light at College while going to Century Square. It was glorious.

I believe that the traffic signals in CoCS and Bryan are intentionally programmed to create difficulties for motorists.

A traffic engineer once explained to me that the timing of the lights is designed to interrupt the flow of traffic in order to prevent the clustering of vehicles, suggesting that all drivers should be held responsible.

Frankly, why should one vehicle in a side lane at a traffic signal stop twenty vehicles on the primary road?

They call it "traffic calming."

Traffic calming, driver infuriating.

Somewhat off topic. If the CoCS Police were to establish a radar trap on any overpass above Highway 6 (within city limits), it would enable the city to swiftly cover the costs associated with the Macy's incident and allow the state to allocate additional resources to higher education. Most drivers are doing 70+mph in the left hand lane. If they are working on the Big 6, then the fine will double! Big win for the city.

They could fund a convention center if they ticketed all the "no right turn on red" red light runners at George Bush and 2818.

This, exactly.

The worst is when the cross streets get a longer green light then the main road does.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I dont have any problems at lights. It must be the flock cameras tracking yall and changing the lights on you.

From what I understand, the lights in CS are on an algorithm tied to the small cameras on the lights themselves (not flock). We don't have just a straight timer like we may have had in olden days.

So if you coast down Texas at 35 and don't have to stop ever when it's 40 or 45 in places, then you are rather lucky.

This morning was shockingly smooth on Texas. I was running later than normal and the traffic was lighter and I hit every light green from Texas @ Bush all the way to Villa Maria. Even then I hit the cycle at just the right time to only sit a minute or two. Then hit all green until my turn on Glenwood

Doesn't happen often...

So traffic engineers make traffic horrible on purpose. Thanks for the confirmation

I watched someone do this at 2818/Holleman with a CSPD cruiser in the lane directly next to them and nothing happened. I've also see a CSPD take the right on red at the same intersection.

I often wonder why they built the far right lane like that if that was not supposed to be possible. There are times during the summer that there is zero traffic coming as far as you can see.

traffic was lighter

This is the key phrase.

Reduced traffic typically indicates that there are fewer vehicles on the minor feeder roads at the intersection, resulting in the traffic lights remaining green for the primary thoroughfare.

Your demonstration shows that by eliminating the stop lights at the smaller feeder roads, a driver on the main thoroughfare significantly increases their likelihood of encountering more green lights.

The take home lesson is for TxDOT, CoCS and Bryan to stop putting up stop lights for every goat path that crosses Texas Avenue. ; )

I remember posting something mildly criticizing the "traffic calming" on WJB and got an unhinged rant in response by someone who only had to have been the person responsible for said WJB changes. That post got deleted, probably because it was the person responsible.

I just drove all the way from Wellborn from Fitch to University and hit greens all the way... didn't even have to slow down for any of them.
