Unmitigated success! My phone still blowing up. Thank you Parks, Police, Fire, Visit College Station, Public Works and apologies I can't list all departments, because virtually every dept pitched in. Massive massive fireworks show and Josh Abbot Band was great! I've never seen that many humans in Wolf Pen. Showcases that asset for what it is.

Very excited about that one!

They were turning people away at the gates around 8:15 and were saying they were at max capacity. I was shocked when I came over the bridge and saw how many people were sitting in that amphitheater. I can't remember ever seeing it that full, but turns out people love Josh Abbott and especially for free!

Walking down Holleman from the mall and into the festivities on the road was cool. Would've been even cooler if that old Sears building was developed! Told my wife it'd be awesome if this stretch became even more developed as an entertainment area tying into the trails.

100%. Why on earth hasn't someone bought the Sears service center and made an ice house out of it. If we continue to utilize WPC for the asset it truly is, someone will.

What was going on with the Holleman festivities? I didn't come in from that direction.

Big LED screen with speakers set up followed by a bunch of vendors and tents along holleman as you walked in. That side of things could be developed into more and it created an overflow area where there were more things to do other than what was inside the gates.

Unless it's somehow in better condition than ten years ago, it would have to be completely gutted.

So, it's like Macy's?

Thanks! As the natural connection between mall parking and the amphitheater, with the "ice house" Sears service center in the center of everything, I like that property for an entertainment use, fulfilled by the private sector, along with steady entertainment of a higher quality in that amphitheater.

We've completed an RFP for some renovation and additions to Wolf Pen- seating and shade mainly. We have not awarded anything yet. Now we're looking for a talent booking and event management company with a proven track record for our niche market, which is proving hard to find- but I'm confident we will.

WPC is minimally a $30m taxpayer owned asset, previously approved by the citizens. There's no compelling reason it shouldn't be utilized more often with more quality entertainment like last night, but regularly. Unfortunately, it can't all be free like last night- but July 4th is a special occasion and we've planted a flag now- the city of College Station's July 4th show is not to be missed!

The reviews for last night are pretty impressive so far.

Thank you, sir.

We're about to do something special with WPC. It's minimally a $30m asset that could be utilized by the citizens and visitors a lot more, with higher quality entertainment like last night and beyond.

We just completed an RFP for a renovation of the physical space with seating and shade, et al. Now we're looking for an event management and talent booking firm. Such a firm would be incentivized to book more talent and run more events.

Done right, I believe this would light up that area and offer a significant quality of life enhancement for our citizens.

I couldnt believe the number of people at the mall. Looked like the entire parking area was full on all sides. We watched it from another location, but I commented when I saw it that they must have turned away a ton of people at the gate.

The University couldn't have picked a worse year to cancel their event.

Grandsons 1 & 2 said it was the best fireworks show they've ever seen! Their grandfather loves that!

It may be that our beloved Alma mater has decided to pass the mantel to our beloved city for a traditional July 4th @ Wolf Pen event.

The City of College Station has planted a flag for more signature events at WPC.

2 lines
2 entrances (or walk-up counters)
2 times the food and alcohol
2 times the profit

or maybe one is just the exit line

Grok did it and I didn't bother changing it, is all. You'd have to ask it/him/her. :-)

Wonderful! That was the goal! Are you the gent that stopped and shook my hand on the sidewalk up top?

Curiously

For those that had a good time, remember your public servants. If they deserve your criticism when they get something wrong in your estimation, they dang sure deserve objectivity and appreciation when they get it right. Just saying. And the amount of volunteer hours that went into that event would boggle your mind. That was an all hands on deck affair.

With utmost respect

With A&M giving up the Fireworks show and College Station filling that space clearly there is more demand than Wolf Pen can fill. Better start planning now to make more space for next year. No need to turn people away.

That was a lot to take in.

It was a fun watch.

Curious of which area they were actually shooting off the fireworks - was it the grassy area closer to Dartmouth? Behind senior/community center?

I forgot to thank The Lions. They've been supporting a fireworks show in one fashion or another for decades!

Thank you Lions!
