My son is looking for his first summer job. We're asking around but most places require you to be 15. Any places that hire 14yo that we should hit up?

He turns 15 in September.
We are in South college station.

Thanks for any referrals!

14 is difficult for a job.
I had kids that had stuff, but weren't employees of a business. They did babysitting, Mommy's helpers (chores around the house for others), lawn care, swim lessons, etc.

He might be better trying to get odd jobs this summer. One of the biggest issues at that age is also transportation.

I couldn't even get hired at 15. Business owners don't want to have to deal with employees who have unreliable or highly dependent transportation.

Also many occupations do not allow those under 18 to work there. We fall into that category

I am also in South college and all my kids started working at 8 for me and yes there mom dropped them off and picked up or one of my workers would take them home

He is 14 he is not going to want to work everyday and I would assume he has friends that they do stuff and family vacations

Again I may can help but need to speak in person because I do have certain criteria's

And the dad came to ask for help for a job for his son

Yes. We my wife and I both have cars and like most parents drive our kids to places they need to be.

I worked at a vacuum repair shop when I was 14. I know mom and pop shops are typically the place to go.

In fact my wife's bakery hires young people in Bryan every year but her business is seasonal, so if anyone wants to reach out around thanksgiving we are happy to employ hard working teenagers!

I thought places weren't legally allowed to hire you if you were under 16 unless some special paperwork was filled out. I think it's either a state or federal law/requirement. Maybe that's changed since I was a teen though.

We used to hire 14 and 15 year olds and there was no special paperwork that I recall. You just have to be aware of the workforce rules for employees under 16. No hazardous, manufacturing, or construction jobs. They could only work so many hours a week, per day, and not past a certain hour of the day during the school year. Hour restrictions were a little better over the summer.
