Not sure I get the complaint. By definition this is with others peoples money. Infrastructure is one of the few legitimate things government does. That stretch of road isn't good for really anyone right now.

"The Bush Wellburn project starts in [20]27 and it takes three years to construct, that's 2030 before we can realistically expect to do anything on University Drive," Rudge explained. "We can't be doing the George Bush [and] Wellburn intersection, and construction on University Drive at the same time. It just won't work."

First off are they sure they mean 2027 and not 2127. Second, it'll be miracle if they do it in 3 years. How about you fix Welburn and Bush now, then worry about University after its done.

That sounds like what he was saying. Do Bush and Wellborn first in 2027, then University when that's done.

Birdie told me the railroads aren't cooperating too well, and that's the largest reason for the delay.

You missed the NOW part. Again how long has this been on the books. If it's like poster below says its the railroad, then dump the project all together and move on fixing University.

Here is something to study: "Fix" Texas Avenue in College Station.
I guess that is not sexy enough for our " BCS Metropolitan Planning Organization"

Quite amazing how RR drag their feet! Here in Lyons where the newly constructed 4-lane FM 60 now intersects 4-lane SH 36 opened 6-months ago. Traffic lights were installed but are not operational due to the RR. Even the Burleson county Sheriff contacted BNSF to try to get a timeline due to the numberous accidents that occur there, yet they continue to blink yellow (Hwy 36) and red (FM 60). Unbelieveable! How difficult could it be???

What's wrong with Texas Ave? It's one of the major thoroughfares that actually works well

It's one of the only major thoroughfares total that doesn't end abruptly mid-way through or has some major design flaw like Wellborn Road's narrowing near F&B Road.

Regardless...how do they address access issues from University Drive to Northgate and TAMU? Even if you built "express lane" tunnels parallel to University Drive it wouldn't be a "plaza" like they want. The only real "alternative" is a megaproject that would bypass Northgate entirely and rip out the residential areas behind it, the houses around Rosemary, and reconnect around Tarrow.

If you really wanted to bury University Drive you should've thought about that 15 years ago before they built buildings close to the road like The Rise or larger buildings behind the main drag.

My point with some major revamp of University from Texas to Welborn would be that the entities that will benefit - TAMU and Northgate within 3/4 miles of it - should foot a larger portion of the bill than folks in North Bryan or Pebble Creek. I could care less about that stretch of University. I probably drive it once every quarter. If TAMU and a bunch of high rise apartments want grade separation- have at it and open your wallet.

Given the timeframe we've seen for the overpass at Wellborn and Bush the 2127 reference above may be a little optimistic...........

10 years for a transportation study, 10 years for the environmental impact studies, 10 years of legal challenges, and 5+ years for construction. We'll have flying cars before anything happens on University/FM 60.

BCSMPO has already wasted a bunch of money studying university through campus. Never addressed the Texas/University intersection…. Looks like they are doing the same study again but 5ish years later….

We approved a bond to support the bush Wellborn project and several other projects. Now they delay the bush project. Railroad should be held accountable for costing taxpayers money, time, and reducing safety by not working on these projects in a reasonable time.

At 2818 Texas narrows from six lanes to four lanes. At rush hour the traffic often backs up to Brothers Blvd. Complete the 6 lane to highway 6 with two exits for the frontage road (for now).

Also the Harvey to Holeman stretch needs some attention (e.g. block off Park place and the HEB drives to entrance only from Texas).
