When I built the La Baronena Steak House (original building behind Taco Cabana), the entire property (Steakhouse and Taco Cabana) were owned by the Taco Cabana folks. The Steakhouse was their attempt at creating a Mexican themed steakhouse. Looks like the properties were sold in 2018 to Biull Miller so maybe we are getting a Bill Miller BBQ?
They've pulled permits to tear it down as well.
I thought there was talk about another place like century square in that area a few years back
They couldn't get a permit for paid parking and a free garage that falls at random. It wasn't zoned for that.

If I recall the La Quinta buildings were planned to be more "Ag Shacks", but I'm not sure if that extends to the other two buildings.
Maybe we'll get In-N-Out Burger there. They did say they wanted to be close to campus.

I I get it, the market is there.
But, the last thing that we need are more Ag Shacks.

Put in a Taco Palenque
The lots where the La Quinta buildings south of Live Oak were are owned by the Ag Shack developers. The old Rice Garden and Taco Cabana/Las Palapas building are owned by the Bill Miller folks. I wouldn't expect those to be Ag Shacks.

That whole area is ripe for redevelopment. Maybe someone will finally buy up the UHAUL site.

That la Quinta was crap when I was in high school. (Checks notes) that was over 20 years ago.
Part of it sold and was or is slated to be torn down. Hopefully the rest of the motel isn't far behind.

Portillo's website reminds me of Freddy's. But they have Italian Beef and Sausage & Peppers, which I love.

Although I believe Portillos is considering going there, it is befuddling.
Portillos is in DFW and Houston but not SA, Austin, Corpus, Lubbock etc. just odd they would consider a lower tier, smaller market before all of that.

Yes, the family of the founder and the former CEO of Bill Miller is the owner, but why would the property be being marketed if they are going to build one of their restaurants there? I think they are also in the real estate business, not just the restaurant business.

Portillo's is quite overrated. Only thing worth getting are the Chicago dogs.
