Our daughter is 15 and looking to start working toward her learner's permit and driver's license. We did it ourselves with our son using an online site, which worked great -- but the daughter is a little more headstrong and I think someone besides a parent would likely be better to teach her. I have a friend who used Safeway and was not happy, but other than that I don't know anything about location options. Can someone recommend a good driver's ed program (preferably in south CS)?

Austin Driving School in Bryan was great for our kids. We are also in College Station.

Depending on her exact age, doing all the driving In the summer might also be an option.

I want to say that for one of my kids they did it during the semester and the driving school shows up to the high schools at the end of the day.

Instead of going straight home, your driver's ed teacher is there in the the company car. Your daughter and a couple other students from the high school all load up into the car and take turns. Then they drop you back off at the high school when done for the day.

Schedule early

I've had two children use Safeway. I was very happy with their program. They are a DPS certified testing site, so you can get everything done with them. Only have to go to the DPS office to get the driver's license after passing the road test with a Safeway instructor.

We used Austin Driving School for our children. I really liked the in-person classes versus online courses because I felt my kids took it more seriously with an in-person instructor. Scheduling the driving hours was a bit of a pain with them, but we were able to get it done. I just wouldn't plan on trying to rush the driving hours.

One of my kids had a friend that took their driving test through Safeway. The way it was described to us, it sounded like almost anyone would pass. I know people like to complain about dealing with DPS, but if my kids can't pass a thorough driving test, then I really don't want them on the road by themselves.

Everyone is going to have different experiences but for us
Austin driving school was absolute chit show . About as unprofessional as you could possibly be

We used Austin for the first part of our son's DE then flipped to Safeway because Austin was so bad.

Great experience with Ruben at Safeway.

We did the parent taught program and then went to Safeway for the road test. Reuben at Safeway is great.

We used Austin about 4 years ago, the classroom and driving instruction was great BUT scheduling the driving was a total disaster and we literally had to rearrange our entire lives to get it done, they had very few options and getting on the "schedule" was difficult. Because they would never answer the phone or return calls.

I believe our instructor retired so for the last kid we are going with Safeway
