Tomorrow is the last day it will be open forever from noon to 2 am. $3 mimosas and $5 bloody Mary's. I haven't been since I dated an Aggie wrangler in the 90's and was his ragdoll he tossed and flipped around. I remember my black Rockies with the rhinestones on the front pockets and my maroon ropers. I was a city girl from H town that learned how to two step and jitterbug on those floors. Can't decide if we're going between morning and evening church services or after evening service but won't miss it. And if they play Neon Moon… it will take me back.

I met my first husband there. I've lost some of the friends I used to dance with until last call. I'm going early to have a drink and maybe exorcise some demons.

My roommate bartender there when it first opened. My wife and I would dance there all the time when we started dating. It's sad there is no where to dance these days. Places like the Hall, Graham's or Denim and Diamonds and now Harry's closing are missed and will be missed. What a great way for young adults to meet and dance. No one dances these days.

Side note, why wouldn't they open in a new location? I'm sure they would be successful.

I hear whispers of something new coming to fill the void. In the meantime there is the Western Club in Navasota.

Kids are still dancing. I have an Elite Wrangler. Her and her friends STARVE for places to dance. We sometimes take a group to the Sons of Herman Hall in Bryan. Fun for an old school family outing. They sell beer and setups. BYOB.

The owners were OK with letting it stay open as it existed, but they aren't interested in putting in the effort to reopen it in a new spot.

The original owner died years back and it was handed down in the family. The managers basically kept that place going all these years.

I think they mentioned that it got a real good deal on the rent which indicated that it was either not doing nearly as well as thought, or the current owners really aren't interested in running it as a viable business.

The current owners nearly closed the place when they inherited it. The managers basically begged them to not sell out, so yeah. Its been on borrowed time for years.

they had a killer, old school rent in that spot. They wouldn't be able to afford today's rental rates in a comparable space/parking.

For those of us who are old, isn't Hurricane Harry's on the site of the former Sports Club?

Yes. Sports Club, Spectrum, Electric Cowboy, Teazers, ROXZ all before Mercury Bar, The Edge, Baja Yacht Club and Harry's.

They expanded into part of the old movie theater at some point. I can't find any article where Hurricane Harry's opened but it sounds like it was originally a strip club.

I think that Harry's opened around 1990/1991, and the expansion took place around 1996.

I don't think it was ever a strip club, but the bars always came up with ways to bring in the firefighters in the summer when student population dropped.

Harry's was never a strip club. The "new" half was the plaza movie theater.

Ah, firefighters week. For many years I ended up hosting the "build your own bikini contest" at the Hall of Fame. I seem to recall one made out of Lifesavers and dental floss.

Oh there was skin shown at the bar when the firefighters came in town. They brought in strippers from Dallas or Houston to dance.

Wasn't the original Roxz in the party room of that apartment complex on 2818 across from the Post Office? Can't remember what it was called but now they have been renamed to "Flats on 12" ....

While it wasn't a strip club, the pole that was in the bottom dance floor sure was treated like it belonged in one.
