Been an Optimum/Suddenlink customer since March 2021 paying $97 per month for 1 Gig speed , which is nearly twice what I was paying for the first 2-years "introductory rate" back in 2021.

Do they still throw deals at you if you call and threaten to switch to a different provider? I know Suddenlink used to do offer those kind of deal but not sure if the process is the same with Optimum.

Anyone been through the process recently and can provide any tips? TIA!

They do, but this is what I got tired of doing. I shouldn't have to call in and grovel to get a good price. That's why I left them. Switched to Frontier and have had zero issues.

It's wild to me that everyone pays them a different rate.

Until now, they knew they had zero competition.

I called and got them to cut my bill by more than half for a couple years. I'll switch to Frontier if they **** around and increase my bill again.

They love to play games. Reduce your rate for 6 months then quietly, in increments, notch it back up. Don't fall for it.

Ask for the retention department.

I called to regular customer service and they said I was paying the lowest rate.

Told them to cancel my cable and I would stream what I wanted. They had to switch me over to the retention department and they gave me the new bundle packages which significantly reduced what I was paying and increased my internet speed too.

One of my best days was making that call to cancel them! It was glorious!!

Anyone tried to check in with Frontier? With so many people on this topic switched over due to bad customer service, how is your experience with Frontier"? I had a billing question today and in spite of my insistence with the AI then chat person to call a customer rep directly, they would only deal thru the chat.

Consider yourself lucky. In Navasota, I pay $111/mo for 100mb (fastest offered until recently). They recently upgraded to area to 500mb. I got a mailer about upgrading to free (since I was currently on their fastest plan in the market). Retention dept would not honor the mailer, and it was going to be $150/mo to upgrade.

I threatened a while back to cancel since I had T-Mobile 5G availability and was waiting on Metronet fiber. Got the 1 Gigabit/40 Mbit down to $30/month. Then when the Metronet came in, I called to cancel, and they said "If you get this $15/month cell phone line, we'll take another $15/month off the cable modem" so I did that for my kid's line (only used for trips and very limited scenarios) and kept it as a backup. I pay $15/month for the cable modem and $16.12 for the mobile line ($15 + taxes, etc).

SO I was an optimum customer for over 15 years until today. I finally got Frontier installed (60$ a mo 1gig). Called to cancel my optimum service and they offered me 1gig for 29.99/mo + 6 mos for free if I stayed. Told them I was still canceling and I'm never giving them another cent.

This bs song and dance they make customers go through of threatening to cancel to be able to keep customers is stupid. I called them last year and asked for a better rate (my internet was 151$ A MONTH) and they told me to kick rocks unless I was trying to cancel... It's all so dumb. Glad to be through with them

Yep, I got rid of SL about a month ago. Went to Fromtier. Same as all of the others….tired of their song and dance. Have had no issues since.

Going through the SL cancellation process, they offered me the world. Super cheap rate for a period of time. A couple months free. And $150 credit towards my account. I politely declined and said I'm never coming back.

(If you do cancel, make sure you find out what equipment they have on file for you and get it returned back within the correct period of time, or they will charge you like $100)

I know SL/Optimum is a royal pain to deal with when you need customer service. They even gave my wife grief when she tried to cancel her sister's account after she had passed away. But I got in on their "Price for Life" promo just before Covid hit and am doing just fine on 400mb for $44/mo.

I may be singing a different tune if/when I need service.

Just call to cancel. They will drop your rate, say, no, I'm going with fiber, and they'll drop it even more.
