HEB takes Apple Pay at the Jones Crossing location! This is a game changer. I'll never have to bring my wallet there again! Woo-woo!

Unless Texas is one of the few states allowing for ID/DL on your phone you will still need your wallet for certain purchases.
If you are ok with Apple (a tech company, not regulated by Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) monitoring every purchase, then OK go right ahead and use Apple Pay.phillytex24 said:

Your not alone, I have been moving back to a more analog life style. Paper note taking/Remarkable notepad (still electronic) as an example.
My latest move is away from the current cell phones to something more basic.
Personally, I feel my life is unhealthy with the constant bombardment of various communication tools.

City bank is regulated by government financial agencies, Congress has oversight of these agencies (for better or worse). Apple pay is regulated my individual state agencies and varies from state to state.LOYAL AG said:doubledog said:If you are ok with Apple (a tech company, not regulated by Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) monitoring every purchase, then OK go right ahead and use Apple Pay.phillytex24 said:

How does Apple having that data differ from Citibank having that data? If you're using credit or debit cards for your day to day life you aren't able to maintain privacy from the banks or tech companies regarding your activity. To this point we haven't seen Apple shift to an advertising based revenue model like we see from Google and Amazon so at least that's a good thing. I'm sure there's something I'm missing in how Apple can monetize that data but I don't see it impacting my life in any way so I guess I'm fine with it. I do no social media other than TexAgs so their ability to sell it to someone that can use it is extremely limited.
I am worried about evil advertisers and junk mail.mhnatt said:doubledog said:If you are ok with Apple (a tech company, not regulated by Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) monitoring every purchase, then OK go right ahead and use Apple Pay.phillytex24 said:

Meh. So the govt, Chinese and evil corporations know that a Texan buys their groceries weekly at H-E-B and panic ensues, yet the Form 4 is celebrated. Go figure.
Yep. I was told last week by a manager of an internet marketing company that when you receive a call and no one is on the line, all the are doing is checking to see if a real person answers the phone. If so, you and you phone # goes in a data base and the information is sold to many marketing companies.Grmpy said:
People have no idea how much privacy and security they are giving away with today's devices and services.
There are even services to purchase your data and track your daily routine due to GPS on cell phones and store shopping habits.

Call me Captain VHS, but I don't want my phone to have that much influence in my daily life. A little bit, like this post, is ok. More than that, trouble ahead.

When you pay through Apple, your credit card is encrypted unlike when you use your credit card at the counter. It's safer.
Not sure what the benefits are from using Apple Pay, but I use my SWA Chase credit card for everything I can including elect bill, car payments, fuel, groceries, medicine, etc, etc. We typically get enough points to get three to four free flights in the U.S. every year. Our next free trip is to Vegas in mid-January to go to the Eagles concert at The Sphere. The travel and two nights stay at Trump Hotel there are "paid" by SWA points.phillytex24 said:

You can use your SWA Chase credit card with Apple Pay. Add it to your Apple wallet. The main security benefit is as has been stated, when you pay, you're exposing a token rather than the card number in the encrypted stream. But it's also darn convenient when I go to Walgreens and pay my bill using my Apple watch instead of having to pull out my card or phone. It's not life changing, but I dig it.woodiewood said:Not sure what the benefits are from using Apple Pay, but I use my SWA Chase credit card for everything I can including elect bill, car payments, fuel, groceries, medicine, etc, etc. We typically get enough points to get three to four free flights in the U.S. every year. Just got back from Ouray, CO and the points paid the airline cost.
I pay the balance on the card every week or two before the end of each month so there is no interest charge.
We've been doing that for many years.
I don't have Apple anything.Rex Racer said:You can use your SWA Chase credit card with Apple Pay. Add it to your Apple wallet.
