When I was younger (late 1990s) and before they clear-cut the Bee Creek area in 2006, I remember there used to be ruins of a bridge that crossed the creek, with some concrete pilings and other stuff left over and looked to be destroyed in a flood. It wasn't in the same place the current bridge is now; the aerial photos are blurry but some evidence suggests it was the apartment block just west of what used to be Putt-Putt.

Does anyone know or remember (and no, I won't write anything on this) when the bridge collapsed?

I moved to the 1400 block of Angelina in '96 and was told about the bridge that was once there, washed away in a flood,,was rebuilt and then was washed away again soon afterward. Assume that the city decided to abandon it after the 2nd collapse.

It's now just a culvert that carries rainwater down to the creek from Rayburn Ct and from the top of the circle that connects Angelina to Valley View.

At where the bridge once was, it merges with another creek that runs behind Glade and crosses Southwest Parkway.

Another bridge was constructed years ago just north of where Longmire ends, It has held up well, probably because the city widened the creek in this area since the old btidge had washed out. Cross it and you end up in Bee Creek Park. More accessible via bicycle than walking, however unless you live in some old apartment complexes from the late 70's-early 80's.

A few years ago, a couple of teenagers died when they tried kayaking down Bee Creek and encountered an obstruction once they went past the "bridge" over Texas Ave and past the old police station. Anyone else remember that?

I remember it being old in the early 80s, I think it got washed away once, then got rebuilt, and finally washed away permanently. You accessed it off Angelina between 1411 and 1413 house numbers. It had a pier in the middle so you crossed both tributaries. Not sure exact dates when they washed away. I thought it was still there in 91.

OK, you can see it in this aerial (1981), but it looks like it wasn't perfectly straight across. Maybe it was the pre-rebuild one...
