I don't know but my first conversation would be with someone at The Farm Patch.

Check out Brazos Valley Tree Farms. Bought 11 white crepe myrtles from them 5 years ago and no issues.

Is that open to the public? I thought it was wholesale only.

My grandfather always told us the best time to plant a tree in Texas is when you think its going to rain for a bit. He alsopreferred planting trees between October and February. THis advice has never failed me.
Walk softly and carry a big stick! Make sure the big stick makes big boom noises and flashy bright lights.

I figured I would wait until it cooled down a bit. Probably Novemberish.

If it's a potted tree or bulaped, it really can be planted most all year as long as you can water it every few days. Regardless of when you plant, wrap the trunk(s) up to the first branches for the first two years to protect from sun scald.

They absolute best time is in October so that the trees have a chance to develop a good root mass before next summer. Make sure you water well for the first two to three years at least.

I planted two six foot CM's a couple of weeks ago during our rains and they are doing fine.

I have five deep, deep dark red CMs that are as close to maroon as there is.

If I am not mistaken, the four were Dynamite variety.

I'd likely wait until we're at least in the high 80s. Even heat tolerant plants are super stressed getting started in searing hot temps.

You can keep your crepe Myrtle's in their original containers for awhile until the temps are a bit more civilized, they'll be fine.
