Neither repossessed or Joseph. Stick with dealers that are not into gimmicks.

I've never understood how this can be a successful tactic.
  • Buy a repo'd vehicle. The person couldn't pay for it, but they surely kept up with the scheduled maintenance
  • Or, the last person who bought this vehicle from me couldn't afford it, so come on in and I'll make a similar deal with you!

It's a gimmick. Most of the cars are bought at auto auctions. Some could be repos, but they could also be trades, rentals, etc.

Yep, many of the cars at used car lots are purchased at auto auctions but doesn't mean they are repos. Some used car dealers take cars to auto auctions monthly to sell to have some cash flow.

If you want to do something exciting in life, ride with a repo man. about 30 years ago I did go a few times with my neighbor John a few times. He would slowing go to a house in a rural area with his lights off and say don't make a sound. Then he would indentify the car and then slowly back up and try to get his rear tow lift under the front of the car and drive it off and secure it further down the road and call the county constable's office to document the repo. With most rural people having dogs, you have about two minutes to get the vehicle off the property.

He said if the owner wakes up and see him they have evey legal right to shoot him for theft if he was on the property. Once getting the car off the property the owner legally can't. That's why John said most of the repos he did was at a person's place of business or at a store parking lot.

Three runs with him was enough for me.

A repo is an illusion of a good deal

but over all they are the best dealer in town.
