Howdy Ags,

I'm looking for a local HVAC Company to install a line set and charge (410A) a mini split heat pump. No electrical work needed, just the refrigerant lines. Does any bonafide HVAC Company or Independent Contractor around here do any mini split work?

Thanks!

Good luck. Most do not want to service mini splits. It is a threat to the industry.

Also, may be cheaper to buy a pre-charged unit because the 410 will cost you about $500. Labor and materials.

I disagree.

I had a new unit installed in my garage from aire cool by Marco and would highly recommend.

No probs no issues.

Barker replaced a dead mini-split unit for me a year ago. They just were out last week on a warranty issue for no charge. I am very happy with their service.

Lots install mini splits, few likely to install yours. I say do it yourself. Most units precharged, but epa cert easy if need buy 410.
I have done several for family and in my workshop and barn. Bought fancier equipment than needed since doing a few. Think you can buy startup kit for maybe 750, and there was a guy on here that bought started his unit and resold for basically what he paid for it
My email in profile if you have questions.

Yeah. He put the unit wherever I wanted it and ran the tubing from there and pulled a vacuum and charged it which was on the other side of the house. That was about 6-7 years ago. Had to buy extra tubing to run it.

Just for my info, how much (ballpark) is a decent mini-split with heat? I'd install it myself, which I guess means I'd get the license and whatnot.

Looking at houses for my daughter and there are a lot of old 1950's home with no central AC in her area. Could pick up one of those at below market value and add mini-splits to it to modernize......

The price range for sure varies. I have bought from several vendors, ac wholesalers, hvac direct, pioneer and others. You can get half ton kit from china vendor for as low as 800, and buy maybe 200 for things like line sets, mounts, disconnect and surge suppressor. My first one was 2 ton high efficiency Mitsubishi and spent 3500 on unit and misc parts, 1000 on pro grade tools and still was 1000 cheaper than lowest bit for an inferior brand. Came precharged so no license since did not have to buy freon.
I understand vendors have to cover equipment, employees and their benefits and slow times, but its not rocket science. Also i did detail man j and most pros were doing major swag to get to their recommendations.
Lots of videos, manuals online and people to order from.
Again email in profile, i dont do installs but can share my experience.

Second nomination for Mize. Donald installed two for me. I went for the higher end Mitsubishi and haven't regretted the $$ spent for 4 years now. Even during the snowstorm it was able to heat the house comfortably. A lot of the cheaper ones struggle with deep cold. Be sure to understand the heating portion. They all cool amazingly well.

My only regret is I didn't do the whole house in mini-splits
