My wife and I recently moved to College Station, and we are trying to find a church that is similar to the one we were members of in Houston (Bibleway Baptist) and absolutely loved. It may be challenging to find a church like the one we went to.

We are looking for a church that is on the smaller side, traditional, and biblical. Traditional in the song service (hymns). At our church men would be randomly called on to pray at the beginning and ending of the service which we really enjoyed. We also want to find a church that teaches bible-based teachings.

Additionally, we are looking for a couples' bible study that we can also join and get to meet more people in town. We don't mind that being through a larger church with more people.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Grace Bible's Creekside campus might fit the bill for you. I would at least put them on the visit list.

Christ's Way Baptist Church across from Bowen Elementary on Copperfield Dr. might fit what you're looking for. It's not a "big" church but has big heart and is growing. You can worship services online or on the YouTube.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

Both congregations mentioned are great options.

I'd add Central as an option for you, too. centralbcs.org

That kind of sounds like Rock Prairie Baptist. My wife and I go to Parkway Baptist but I don't know that it is quite as traditional as you're describing.

Smaller side does not equal Grace or Central.

Grace has something like 5 campuses now. They're not all big.

A belated welcome to you! I expect you have found a church family by now, but in the off chance that you haven't I'd like to add Redeemer Baptist (formerly Southern Oaks Baptist) to this thread.

They're not quite as casual as what you've described, but they teach solidly from the Bible, sing almost exclusively hymns, and (during the school year) have small groups that go deeper into each message. They also have a biblical counseling center called Axios.

We love Holy Cross Lutheran on Sebesta! 10:45pm service. Terrific youth programs and service projects!

If you're not set on Baptist, I highly recommend A&M United Methodist Church.

I second this. The 11 am service is the one we attend and we sing traditional hymns. The sanctuary looks like an actual church sanctuary, not a lecture hall. Don't let the "UMC" scare you...we're a traditional congregation and we have an outstanding senior pastor.

We have plenty of congregational participation in the service (reading the scripture and leading the opening prayer).

It's easy to be placed into a Bible study group or a Sunday School group based on shared interests. My husband and I belong to a home-based small group that meets every other Tuesday night and our group is the "Empty Nesters".

If you are willing to look outside of Baptist, I highly recommend Bethel Lutheran Church off Boonville in Bryan. We both grew up Baptist, but have found home at Bethel. Scripture based and very welcoming!

What happened to the former preacher there? He was older and had a daughter that taught at a public school?

The entire staff is new from when I went there and it wasn't that long ago

He retired. He still goes there, I believe. At least he told my wife and I he was staying when we went a couple of years ago.

I'm a little surprised. He ran off not one but two whorsphip leaders (music) in two seperate instances. I'm not sure if person #2 returned, but Gordon Knight was offensive and caused a rift on numerous occasions.

I lost all respect for him and his "Christian" family

I wouldn't know about that. We settled on a different church.
