Supposed to be close 100% in the Hill Country.
Got a spot @ Inks Lake.
Sure hope it's not an overcast day.
Anyone know how much it will affect B-CS?

Total Eclipse of the Heart! I love that song! We should play it while watching it happen!

I wish someone had put that in the thread title.

I believe I read that B/CS would be about 94% coverage. Few folks I've talked to who experienced totality in that 2017 eclipse said it's very worth it to be in the 100% coverage, though.

Got a couple buddies with land west of I-35. Hoping I can hitch a ride with them and hang out there that week.

It's on a Monday. They should have scheduled it better.

I had the privilege of seeing a total solar eclipse several years ago. I was not prepared for the temperature drop throughout the day! It was August (admittedly in Oregon) and we had to buy coats and blankets to stay outside to watch it. It is not to be missed if you have the opportunity.

We'll be in Georgetown for it. We were going to be there the day before anyway so we're staying for the eclipse

We were in Knoxville for the 2017 total eclipse. Mind blowing! A few things we learned about the experience:
  • get some of the solar eclipse glasses. They're inexpensive - around a $1 each - so get some for your family, and maybe a couple as spares to share. Also think about purchasing an inexpensive solar filter for your camera to help make the pics clearer
  • bring something to entertain the kiddos, and even adults, during the build up to the eclipse. We brought a colander and got lots of cool pictures of the phases of the eclipse
  • put your cell phones, cameras, &c down a couple of minutes before totality. Be in the moment. The minute or so before it happens are impressive enough, but the totality is like some cosmic light switch has been turned to off. Birds and insects go quiet, the air cools, and the brief silence is phenomenal
  • expect the crowd (if you're in an area with others) to clap and cheer for the performance :-)

Expect traffic jams anywhere headed to the Hill Country. I lived in Southern Wyoming and it took hours and hours for folks to get back down to Denver. the estimated over 500K people drove north for that one. I could see the same thing or worse as people from Houston and E & SE of Austin & San Antonio travel west to see it. expect major traffic jams.
Let's go ski-man!

I'm trying to talk my half-brothers into coming down for it (they live in Georgia). Their grandma lives in Stephenville, which should be in the path of totality. If I am successful in convincing them (one of them is a science nerd and loves this type of stuff), I'll just meet up with them in Stephenville.

Really annoyed I have to be in California for work but we drove to Wyoming for the 2017 one, and yeah, don't plan on going anywhere for a while if you're near the center path of totality. Traffic was bonkers.

But definitely one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. If at all possible you want to be up high somewhere so you can see the darkness come toward you and then leave the other way. Enchanted Rock would be an awesome place if there weren't going to be 50 million people there.

Fredericksburg and Kerrville areas are already rented out. Prices are crazy for what people paid. The locals are dreading it for the most part.

That area is expecting about a million visitors or more.

We plan on being in Junction and I'm dreading the traffic coming back.

I went to Tennessee in 2017 to see that eclipse. it is 100% worth the effort to do so.

The difference between seeing a total solar eclipse at 99% totality and 100% totality is about the same difference as being 99% dead vs 100% dead. it's huge.

THIS!!
We drove to missouri to see it with my 3 daughters

You cannot look at the sun eve at 99.9% "totality".

Then you have this BLACK DISC in the sky that you can look at it and you understand why the ancient probably thought the world was ending.

Don't miss this if you are in texas!!

Your phone camera will not take a good video or pictures of it even in totality. You'll need a good camera with proper filters.

So don't be looking at in totality through your damn phone.

Watch it and enjoy it.

We have family land in Coryell County. Gatesville was told to expect around 700k people. They are pretty much in the center of the band with expected totallity to last almost 4 1/2 minutes

Here is an interactive map you can use to check length of totality at any point. Just zoom in and tap on your location.
Hope it works

I am curious who you are. If you are class of '04 we may have attended Gatesville together.

I have tons of family in Coryell.
