Recently retired, looking to do some good with the free time. What are some fun and interesting volunteering possibilities here in brazos valley?

I've been volunteering at the Brazos Church Pantry for over 10 years and love it. I know a lot of pantries struggle to get volunteers. You might check around and see which ones need help. Also the Brazos Food Bank is always looking for volunteers.

BCS together is a great organization. I believe they have volunteers at the Closet.

SHP if you like working with tools. They build bunk beds for kids.

Meals on Wheels. My wife and I do that and enjoy it. About 3 hours once a week unless you want more. You can do by yourself or as a couple. Hot meals to elderly with financial hardships.

A second endorsement for Meals on Wheels. My wife and I get so much out of doing it each week and it provides an anchor for our calendar. Beyond that, I recommend just deciding what you are passionate about just start looking up related nonprofits to contact. You'll probably find something rewarding. A couple of sites to get started:

You could deliver for Meals on Wheels a day a week.

Are you a Veteran? I was on the American Legion honor guard for a good while, and doing military honors at funerals kept me as busy as I wanted to.

Ride2Health is in BIG need of volunteers! The org gets folks without reliable transportation to and from their doctors appointments.

There is a search and rescue team in town that could prove adventurous and rewarding.

Search Dog Network

Just to put this out there for anyone else who's looking: Aggieland Humane Society is always looking for volunteers. You can visit the shelter to walk dogs or sign up to foster pets in your home. They provide everything you need to foster, including food, toys, beds.

I enjoy fostering because it's great to see the dogs come into a home and decompress from the shelter environment and show their personalities. I usually make a little video for social media to help them get adopted too.

I'm excited you will be getting involved with such a great organization. I love that you are going to help feed people who are in need. Thank you for volunteering your time and energy. It's a special person who chooses to spend their free time helping others.

A life of service my friend. From FDSR to Popcorn Peddler to Bartender to lazy piece of ***** But yeah, it should be a fun thing to try out.

Salvation Army. They have a food pantry, clothing closet, and Angel Tree around the holidays.

After I retired in 2016 I volunteered there 1-5 days a week until Covid.

Very rewarding.

Ive used Just Serve with some good success in finding volunteer opportunities.
