We ordered online and when we got to Laynes to pick up, the price on the menu was considerably cheaper than what we paid online. And online it said it includes a drink. When we picked up, we questioned cashier and he had no idea what we were talking about ….no drink and our credit card was already charged for higher price.

Just interested if anyone had same experience?? Also fries were soggy the last two times. Think we're done for a while.

Yeah, Layne's has sucked since around 2003. Go to Cane's, instead.

I've never tried to order online from Laynes, but they don't have any meals that come with drinks. They do sell drinks (2 sizes, and their drinks have crushed ice), but the drinks are a separate price so I don't know what you were seeing online.

They have recently slightly changed their menu though. Instead of just one size, they now offer a few smaller sizes, and the prices say actual unusual prices (ending in 18 cents or something) so it comes out a nice number including the tax instead of listing it on the menu with the tax already included (how they used to list it).

Also, the potato salad is apparently now a side item so you have fries and toast (so telling them extra fries or extra toast instead of the potato salad isn't anything you need to specify any more).

Not sure if the pricing issue is related, but note that the local Layne's locations are no longer controlled by the original owner. They are now 'corporate' locations.

Layne's Owner Retires

I was a bit surprised the last time I went, as the menu had changed some and the fries were different.

Had some nice medium rare chicken fingers last time I went to the Laynes off of Fitch and Greens Prairie. Nothing like a good oral purge of everything in my stomach and more to make me never want another chicken finger from there again.

Doordash, Grubhub, and other third-party services always have marked up prices.

That picture is from Layne's website, not DoorDash.

According to that article, looks like it's the second owner, not original owner, who just retired. It says Mike Layne started Layne's in 1994, and he sold it to Mike Garratt in 1999. Mike Garratt is the one who apparently retired a couple months ago, which I'm guessing is why the menu's slightly different and there's supposedly online ordering.

I got takeout from south CS location first time in a while. $0.50 for an extra sauce. Geez, last year it was $0.10. They forgot some of the order too. Portions seemed smaller, served in different takeout containers. And the price was more.

Good to know the owner has retired. Make sense why it looks to being going downhill. What a shame.

I've eaten at both the Greens Prairie and Texas Avenue locations in the last few months and have had no issues. Food has been great, although I noticed the prices had gone up a little.

It's like that if you do curbside groceries. Cheaper in store than if you order through the app for curbside.

I also experienced the internally semi-raw and pink Layne's tenders before. That was it for me.

I ordered extra potato salad last time (about 2 months ago), and they completely left all of them out of the entire order.

Yep, they have gone done badly. Like you, the fries are cold and soggy. The last time we went there the strips were about 1/2 of what they were a few months ago.

We now almost exclusively go to Chicken Express for strips and Popeyes for the chicken sandwich which is surprising great.

If you get east anytime, go to the Yankee Tavern in Carlos. Their chicken sandwiches are the best in the area.

The last couple of times I went, the chicken was so overcooked and dry it was hard to chew.

Never had a bad meal at Yankee's. Burgers are great, chicken fried steak, wings. The Monterey Jack Ribeye sandwich is excellent. Wednesday steak night is a great deal.

Dang, this sucks to read. Cane's it is! That's my usual Layne's and since it's not $5 for a box anymore I can't afford bad chicken fingies!

Went tonight and it was fine. Fast food chicken. Fast food fries. Fortunately everything was cooked well. Prices did seem quite a bit higher but what isn't? Welcome to Biden's America.

Canes seldom disappoints. Maybe once or twice in some questionable Harris Co neighborhoods, but not otherwise. Local stores deliver consistently.

It was the same way 20 years ago. Laynes was never good.

OP, you know you ordered from a place that is a literal concrete block building with a coating of grease so thick you could put it in a diesel and run it. And you are asking why their online game isn't on point?

Just get in line like everybody else and there won't be any confusion.

The menu has definitely expanded to the franchise stores' parity...jalapeno ranch, milkshakes, spicy tenders...none of these existed for years until recently.

Lol, I wish this was even half true. Would've been a few lbs lighter in college

I used to order multiple chicken finger baskets and keep them in my mini fridge in my dorm. Good times.

I don't know, unless every single time I went there it was an "off" day. The chicken was always small, dried up, and overfried. Have never understood the obsession with that place. Plus the people that worked there always seemed surprised or pissed off that you were there to order chicken strips.

I don't know that there's a lot of people saying Layne's is "elite".

But they gave you a bunch of food, had some great peppery sauce, and, when I was a kiddo anyway, you could get filled up for $5 or less. It was great college food right across from campus

Hate to say it but Chicken Express prices have flown the coop, too. Two-piece - TWO PIECE - tender snack pack and a sweet tea up over $10. I'll try to refrain and limit the politics to F16 ... but you know what I'm thinking.
